#371827, "Twins or Triplets? Opinion appreciated..."

Hi there -

This is my first posting ever on a multiples message board.
I am 10 1/2 weeks pg with twins (found out at a 7 wk
appointment via u/s.) I was looking at my u/s on my computer
and there looks to be 3 sacs. The twins are the two on the
left. At the last minute my doc said she'd get a better
picture and changed positions, then printed out the u/s pic
and gave to me but never looked at it herself. I'm now going
crazy. My mom called to say she sees three -I am now looking
closer and that is what I see! I read that sometimes the
bladder can appear as a dark spot and fool you, but I see a
fetus in that "dark spot" on the right. My doc
says she could have missed it because it was an early
appointment and she focused on the two sacs close together.
Although my husband and I keep thinking...surely she couldn't
have missed the third if it was that obvious - there must be
an explanation. Anyway, 6 long days until my next
appointment - would love an opinion from any of you. I'll
have to let you know what happens. I am going pretty crazy.
This is my husbands and my first - we have conceived
naturally, I was on b/c for 15 years until 3 mos ago. My
side has 4 sets of twins (his side has five). Any opinions
would help me get through the next few days. :)

Sincerely,

Betsy

wow...really does look like 3 to me. Ultrasounds can be
tricky, though, so unfortunately I think you're going to have
to wait until your next one. Good luck!!!

Is this the only picture you have? If you have another,
please post it. I can't tell if the third area is your
bladder or a third baby. I can see why you would think it is
triplets.

Thanks so much for your reply. I only have this
picture...ugh. However, I was just researching the placement
of the bladder via a pregnancy diagram and I no longer think
that could be the bladder. I think that thin canal is just
the vaginal canal. Trying to not be obsessive but it's hard.
:)

Wow...Well we did an IVF procedure and had several US before
we even found out it was triplets. For the first 9 weeks, it
revealed twins, then the next week, it was triplets! Up until
we found out, they kept saying that "there was something
over there...but not sure if it was another one".
"They did state that it could have been one that did not
make it when they were analyzing it. We placed 3 embryos in
and all three were successful!

Oh goodness! Congratulations - that is so wonderful!

I'll have to let you know what happens next Friday at my
appointment. If I am having triplets, I might need to bug
you. :)

I've got no medical background whatsoever but that sure as
heck looks like 3 babies to me. That u/s pic looks like mine
from about that time. Let me tell you at about 7-8 weeks when
the RE first saw three sacs (1 good looking, 1 so-so, and 1
mis-shapen, elongated not-real-sure-what-it-is spot) he said
"I can almost guarantee you 90-95% chance of having one
healthy baby out of this pregnancy. Maybe....just maybe you
might have twins. But you won't have triplets."

Ha! My fat, healthy, funny, and LOUD trio are 6.5 months old
now. Whether you have 2 or 3 in there....CONGRATS!!!

I think a congrats is in order for a new to-be-TRIPLET mom!
That can't be your bladder sweetie. I'm a mom of 7 with 2
multiple pregnancies. That looks like triplets to me. I had
a twin pregnancy & a triplet pregnancy-yours definately
looks like a triplet. I can't wait for your update! Take
care & God bless, Jeannie

wow - it sure looks like triplets to me! It resembles my
ultrasound. Please let us know the outcome. Best of luck to
you.

Sometimes the Mom's intuition on this is really good - better
than the dr.

At an early ultrasound (maybe 5 weeks?), they told us that we
definitely had two sacs, but one of them didn't look so good
and might not make it. They said to come back in a week, and
they'd tell us if we had two or one.

My wife was studying the ultrasound pictures, and swore she
saw a third one. I wasn't sure if I agreed or not...

A week later, we went back to the dr. The ultrasound tech
said "You're not going to believe this... but you have
triplets."

To add on to the part about the Mom's intuition... my wife
also had a dream that (correctly) told her that we'd have two
girls and a boy.

They missed one of ours in our first ultrasound. The picture
clearly shows only 2 sacs. Then a month later we had another
ultrasound and then we discovered we were having triplets.

It kind of looks like it to me, but I also have zero
knowledge about this stuff. What torture having to wait!
