#1485, "2nd b-day ideas"

My children will be celebrating their 2nd bday in a couple of months. We had an enormous party lasr year in a hall, and I definately don't want to go that route this year. I have about 25 kids 1 1/2 to 3, I cant decide if I should have it in a play gym or my house. if I have it in the house what type of actvities would be good? I wish it was warmer in March because I would have loved o have it outside. My house is big enough but I was thinking of splitting it into 2 parties. Any suggestions would be great. thanks Tara

My trio just celebrated their 2nd birthday last month. We had a small party at home. Around 15 adults and 7 toddlers not including my trio. It was perfect! The kids had a blast just playing in the playroom and with the new toys (after they were opened of course). I did have a smaller party during the week with our playgroup friends (6 toddlers and 6 Mom's) so the weekend party wouldn't be too overwhelming. Last year we had a much bigger party and my dh and didn't enjoy it at all. If you have that many kids I suggest doing it at a play gym or split the party up....you will enjoy it much more! Good luck with whatever you do!

I like the idea of having it at a play gym or chuckee cheese type place! All those toddlers running around your home is a huge responsbility even under close supervision things can get broken, ect... And just think you will have no clean up if its held outside your home! Sounds like a blast either way! Our 1st bday we rented a hall too and invited freinds and family! Last yr for 2 bday we did a home pool party in June, it was nice cus we can be outside at that time of year! I will probably do the same this yr. I think the first thing to do is come up with a theme for the party and go with that, Then you can decide if it would be better suited for your home or elsewhere. Good luck! Kim

Hi! We just celebrated our 2nd b-day last saturday. I went with a train theme, and sent out Thomas the Tank invitations. I also rented a 24 passenger train for about $100 per hour and everyone rode around the subdivision, adults included(they had more fun than the kids, everyone had a "train whistle to blow"). we lucked off, cause the weather was fine(southeast louisiana) Last year, i went with a clown theme and rented a clown to come and entertain the kids, paint faces, blow up balloon animals, etc. there are some websites that you can go to that have TONS of ideas, centered around age, themes, characters, etc with ideas for games and everything else. Go to yahoo, and search party ideas. Good luck kelly

Make sure you teach them how to say "I'm two" and hold up two fingers and how to blow out candles (not real ones, but just blow out air) Have fun!

I was just talking witha friend (she is much more creative than I am), and I think I may do it at home. I am going to push their party back 2 weeks into April and due and Easter egg hunt. I will also give out little baskets instead of goody bags, and if I get really brave maybe dye some eggs. Thanks for your help Tara

Tara,
My dd has a May b'day and for her 4th it had been really warm and we planned a "swim" party and were going to have our wading pool out, etc. Well, a storm blew in during the party so everyone ended up indoors trying to our craft activities, etc.
Well the next 2 years I held the party at our YMCA. They rent their party room for $15/hour. 1st year we did half the party in the party room and the other half in the swimming pool. Last year I had the whole thing in the party room.
At age 2 this would also work well - all you need is a big space and lots of balls!!! (at least that would work great w/my boys that will be 2 later this month).
I love using the Y bc when we go home home is still clean! That works great for me bc my in-laws typically arrive on party day.
Have fun.

Thanks for the ideas everyone. After talking it over with my Dh I think we are going to have 2 parties. AT the play gym with our multiples playgroup. AT our hous ewith friends and family. We were thinking of doing an egg hunt with the kids. Has anyone done this with 2 year olds and do they get the idea? If anyone has any other suggestions for and Easter themed party, please let me know. I thought about dyeing eggs and then thought that it would be too messy. Thanks again Tara
