One of my boys had pretty bad reflux as an infant. We thought he outgrew it but started showing signs of discomfort about 6 months ago. The ped put him back on prevacid which seemed to help a bit for a while - but is not helping much any more. He probably needs a higher dose due to weight gain. I took him back to GI doc we saw when he was an infant and he has us scheduled for an upper GI and endoscopy.

I was just wondering if there is anyone here with a toddler with reflux. What symptoms did they have / how is it being managed? My son is not and never has been FTT but is an extremely picky eater.

We are going through the exact same thing with my son Ryan. He is a 32 weeker and will be 4 in November. He had the upper gi, 24 hour ph probe, and endoscopy last Tuesday and Wednesday. Our peds GI kept him on the prevacid for the tests and they showed he is refluxing 25 percent of the time. The trouble we are having is that he is awake so much at night screaming about his belly and asking for water. He eats very little most days, but always wants milk, which I limit to 2 sippy cups a day, he does drink water and no juice at all.

He takes prevacid in the morning and starting tonight will be taking axid at bed time. Previous medications have been zantac and prilosec.

Ryan seems to be getting worse as he gets older, not better which totally suprised me.

Thanks so much for your reply. Brian is constantly asking for milk as well. He does eat Ok when the meds are working but recently he just picks even at the stuff he likes. My son has been waking at night for a long time but doesn't really have the vocabulary to tell us why yet.

How did Ryan do wtih the upper GI? I'm not worried about the endoscopy because he's put asleep - but I can't figure out how the heck they are going to keep him still enough to do the x-rays for the upper GI.

He suprised me and did well with the upper gi. They had him lay on his back on the table and I stood near his head with the flavored barium and gave him sips of it when they told me to. He cried when the nurse moved him around, but otherwise he was promised stickers and did ok. The endoscopy was harder for me, they did the iv with me in the room and the doctor pushed the meds to sedate him, so his eyes were looking weird and he was so calm, but he never fell asleep for the procedure. They had me leave for the actual procedure and called me back within less then 20 minutes. He does not remember anything.
