#269, "What have you done/willdo for New Years?"
|
What are some of the things you do for New Years Eve? It is such a weird holiday for us now that we have kids. Stay home go out? When the kids were little we especially didn't care about staying up. We slept when we could. Of course in the teen and young adult phase (for myself)I couldn't imagine not doing something amazing. Tonight we are taking advantage of a free babysitter and the fact that my husband dosen't have to work tomarrow and we are join the masses in doing a dinner and movie. I was just giving this some light thought as to what our family tradition might be in the future.
As a kid we either stayed at home with the older kids with a bunch of junk food and watched Rockin' Eve. At midnight we would bang pots and pans outside (we were so pleased with ourselves!) or we would do the same thing with our parents in the other roon zonked our for the last couple of hours of course they were to be awakened by the pots and pans at midnight.
We have thought about taking up the tradition of going out to breakfast New Years Day. Of course the idea is not original by any means, but sounds fun and easy.
By now, many of you are not to far away from the New Year because you are several hours ahead of Arizona.
Anyway...sorry for the randomness of my thoughts, but I thought that this could be a potentially interesting topic.
Ideas anyone??? Susan Wife to Justin MoM to Kimball, Karissa, & Kelsey (11/00 @ 34 weeks)

Pretty interesting topic indeed with boring result...at least at my house. Growing up my parents always went all out for New Years and I just always assumed that's the route I would take in my adult life. Nope. Year after year ##### Clark has been my entertainment I have done three events total (comedy club, party w/close friends, and biggest and best ever my wedding) So there I thought a woman who can celebrate her annivsary in style every year. Hardly. This is year four and we ate frozen pizza and will watch DVD's tonight and if we're up till midnight toast each other Happy Anniversary and Happy New Year. Why? B/C I have wennie family members that think it would be too hard to handle or they already have plans....for the next 10 years or just didn't offer. Dh works hard all day and so do I. I can only think if we make it to midnight who's going to get up early with the kids?
Sorry if I sound a tad bit whiney I am just so ready for the neighbors to get over the fireworks kick, pray that they dont wake my children. And slightly wishing I had somewhere to go and get dressed up for.

For about a split second I wished that we had some place fabulous to go tonight - until I thought about getting up at 5:45am! That is just a little too close to 12am! Anyway, I am working until 10pm, so all the kids will be in bed by the time I get home. Dh and I will probably have a glass of champagne, talk about how blessed we are to have each other and four amazing kids, and then go to sleep and recharge for the next day. Maybe 12/31/06 will be the night we go somewhere fabulous - until then we'll settle for some extra sleep. Happy New Year everyone.

The kids are sleeping, I'm going to bed and Dh is working. Fun huh? I am going to set my clock for 11:45pm so I can watch the ball drop & go back to sleep so I can get up at 5:45am and go to work. HAPPY NEW YEAR 2004!

I can relate to hoping the noisy neighbors don't wake the babies! Every time a firecracker goes off (its 10:46 pacific time) I listen to make sure none of the babies have awaken! This is the my first new year's eve as a mom and what a change! Of course last year I was 28 weeks prego and snoozing away!!! Happy New Year to all of you! And to all of you who gave birth to your trio in 2003, remember how greatly the year blessed you!!

We usually go to a friends house and party and crash there or throw a major rager at our house. Pre-baby of course! Last year I had strep throat, but we still went to a friends house to party while my parents watched the kids until noon the next day. I couldn't drink b.c my throat hurt so badly and we had a major ice storm, so no one showed up at the party! Plus the TV went out so we missed the ball drop. I was in bed at 12am.
This year, no one wanted to host the party, so Tim and I rented a suite at a local hotel. Actually my parents paid for it as a Christmas gift. 2 bottles of wine and a jacuzzi tub is how we brought in the new year. It was wonderful, we talked like we haven't talked in years. We decided to do this atleast twice a year. We are blessed with my wonderful parents that willingly watch the kids whenever we ask. We didn't have to be home until noon today!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Well, it is getting hard for me to remember pre-children New Year's Eves! For the last 8 years we have either just gone out on a date (dinner/movie) or stayed home...sleep being too important! So boring, huh? Last night was the first night we have let Chloe and Hannah stay up till midnight though...so we had our own little family New Year's Eve party. We made homemade pizzas, had yummy ice cream, and watched movies we rented from the library. From about 11-12 we sat around the kitchen table and ate chips/salsa and soda and talked about 2003...remembering what we had done, telling funny stories from our childhood, etc. At midnight we went outside and banged pots and pans and screamed Happy New Year. There were several neighbors who had fireworks out here, so we watched those for a few minutes. Basically that was it! The kids loved it though...they were so excited to stay up with mom and dad.

I know this is after the fact, since it's 3 p.m. on New Year's Day. But I love to tell people in other parts of the country what we do for New Year's Eve.
We live five miles outside a tiny little town in the mountains of Montana. This year we have lots of snow. We have a few neighbors around us (within earshot, but out of sight). There are a few little parties around we could go to, but none of them compare to our own private celebration!
Every year we take our (real) Christmas Tree down the night before New Year's Eve. Then, for the big night, we prop it up in the snow and redecorate it with about $100 worth of fireworks...strings of firecrackers for garland, whizzing whirley things for ornaments, and a big bottle rocket on top for a star. We liquify parafin wax and pour it over the tree (so it will burn longer), then douse it all with lighter fluid or kerosene. Then, whenever we can't stay up any longer (we do this before the kids go to bed), we light the whole thing. It really goes up in a blaze of glory, with fireworks going off all over the place and the tree just making a huge fire! It is so cool...and because there is so much snow, we don't have to worry about burning the forest down. My kids LOVE this...clapping, saying "yeah!" and jumping up and down. When it's all over, we have a special drink of eggnog and send the kids to bed, then watch a movie and head to bed ourselves. Being with our family is the best present ever!
Hope you all had a great celebration...and if you copy my idea, don't tell the cops who started this pyromaniac triplet trend! Ha!
