#486710, "Pulmonary Embolism"

I am currently hospitalized with pulmonary embolism (blood clots in both lungs). I did not suffer from blood clots before, even with 20 weeks bed rest for the triplets. Any advice is welcomed.

Maggie, I'm sorry that I don't have any advice, but just wanted to pipe up and wish you a quick and full recovery. I can't imagine how hard it must be to be separated from your boys. Wishing you well and hoping that others will respond with firsthand experience.

I am so glad they caught it! One of my dear friends had this years ago. I think she had to be on blood thinners for a few months. She made a full recovery and is back teaching aerobics several days/week.

Good luck and quick healing to you!

Marie

How long was her recovery? I am so worried about that.

I'm having lunch with her tomorrow so I'll ask her and get back to you. I believe she had to be on blood thinners for 6 months daunting, I know, but you have survived triplets and you'll get through this. I may not be able to post until tomorrow night or Tuesday morning but I will get back to you.

Maggie,

I asked my friend to send me an email summarizing her healing process. She had to receive blood thinning shots for a couple of weeks (said that was no fun) and then was on blood thinning pills for six months. They had to do follow up MRI's (?) to make sure the clot dissolved.

One very important thing (for her) was getting on anti-depressants. She began to have panic attacks - frightened for her children if her recovery did not go well, etc. She said the anti-depressants made all the difference in the world. She remembers being weaned off of them before being weaned off of the blood thinners. She also said that the dr. gave her a few pills (I think anti anxiety) for any sudden onset panic attacks. She thinks that she maybe had to take one or two in the following year.

She had had ACL surgery and the drs believe that the blood clot stemmed from that.

I hope this helps. I will post any other details she forwards to me.

Marie

I'm so sorry to hear you are in the hospital. I hope the recovery is quick and easy for you. My FIL had blood clots in his lungs many years ago. He took blood thinners for a while and things resolved on their own with no issues.

Best wishes,

Sharon
