#4383, "GPS for child with autism"

Hi All,
I was just wondering if any of you use a gps for your child with autism. My son will sometimes leave the house and although we are usually on top of this he does get out from time to time. I am looking for something I can use not only at home but that may be water proof as well when we are on the beach. I am hoping some of you can recommend a product you are alredy uaing.
Thanks
Julie

Hi, My autistic son is 5. If you turn your back for one second he is gone. We have a tracking device on him that is set up through our counties sherriffs department. If he goes missing we call 911. They have a protocal they follow based on how long he is missing. It is water proof. It is called project lifesaver. I found out about it through his school. So far we have not used it (as I hold my breath). It does give me extra peace of mind. WE are in NJ. I don't know where you are but you can call your local police dept. to find out if they offer something like this. It was originally started for alzeimers patients. We place it around his ankle. It doesn't phase him at all. He got use to it very quickly. Please look into this. My son is nonverbal so if he goes missing it is like looking for a deaf child. It is very scarey. I wish you the best of luck. Carol
