#688, "running out of patience"
|
Hi to every lucky mother of triplets. I´m a mother of three 11 months cute boys.
For the first nine months I felt very patient with the babies. From 10th month on, even though I love them a lot and feel very grateful to God for having them healthy and happy, I feel kind of desperate at times, specially when they start crying (sometimes at the same time!) without a reason for me.
I tell myself "They are babies, try to understand them". I have tried praying, asking God to lighten me in such hard moments, singing, getting out of the room, etc... but nothing seems to be working at all. And it makes me feel sad and guilty when I had been about to lose control.
I worry because I don't want to hurt them, neither phisical nor emotionally. Please tell me what you have done to keep patience and treat them with love even in these hard times.
I am glad to know I am not alone and that you moms of triplets or more understand me.

Talk to your husband about some alone time for yourself or as a couple. I know the burden of care generally falls on the mom but you need time to be yourself, especially if your starting to lose it. You'd be amazed how good it feels to be an adult for a few hours.

Martha,
Don't feel sad or guilty, it is natural for you to be frustrated when you are in a job that does not give you a break! Do you have friends and family that can help you get some time off? If you do call them and schedule some time alone or with your husband. If you don't maybe look at hiring a nana to help you few days a week. By experience once the babies past the 9 month mark, they become more aware and busier. I know I always say that my favorite age was from 0 -8 months. Sometimes when feeling very frustrated I used to make sure the babies were on their cribs, fed and changed and then walked away from the room for 5 minutes, just enough to say a prayer and beg for tranquility. A few days I called my friends (our families are both out of the country), waited till they came in and went for a walk. It will always be challenging and you will be frustrated more than once more, keep in mind that there will be a time when you will miss what you are going through and will look back at it with fondness.

It can be frustrating, we all know. When you get to the point where you get crazed, or run out of things to do to appease them and you feel like you can't take it - put them in their cribs (or safe place) and go outside, another room - somewhere where you can reflect ALONE!!! Turn on a radio sing really loud or dance around (sounds crazy, but it releases a lot of anxiety!)
When all else fails - can you call someone?? Just someone you can vent to, or who can come over to lend a hand or an ear???

Though is has been may years since I was in your position, I remember it WELL! Sometimes you just get overwhelmed and that is perfectly natural! Luckily I had a few neighbors who were wonderful. There were a few times I called one up and said "Please take this child for an hour or I am gonna lose it" She would come over take someone or sometimes all of them and give me a little time to get myself back together. I used to think there was something wrong with me for feeling that way but in retrospect who wouldn't feel that way? It is an awesome overwhelming job to be the mother of 3 babies. It does get better I assure you! But then the teen years come and you are right back where you started lol!!
Good Luck and know that you are not alone! 1an1is5
