#944, "What do you drive?"

My wife is now 16 weeks pregnant with triplets and is still driving her Mini Cooper, we know this won't last for long, but she is pretty adamant about not going from Mini Cooper to Mini Van, so I just wanted to see what everyone drives? We would like to put all three in the second row.

I didn't want to go the minivan route either but my Saturn wouldn't fit 3 in a row. So, we ended up getting the Toyota Sienna 8 passenger. All 3 fit in the second row with plenty of room in the back.

Okay... I am laughing.
The mini van is everything you need and eventually will be the ONLY vehicle you will ever want!!!

Think FUNCTION! Mom can look hot in a min van too!
lol

Oh.. we drove a Town & Country when the trips were babies. When suprise little girls came along we purchased a FULL SIZE van!
I love it!!!

Yep I was the same way. Seriously resisted the minivan. My husband even asked me to look at the mini Hummer because it was wide enough for three car seats - just begged, no minivan! We had a hard time finding something that could fit those three car seats. Ultimately we bought a Honda Odyssey. LOVE IT. It drives well, has great pickup, and the family features can't be beat. Struggling with three car seats while your door is propped open in a tight parking space is NO FUN. You can remove the van's extra seats to fit your configuration, leaving room for putting those car seats, diaper bags, etc etc without being out in the sun, rain, snow, etc. You can nurse in there, change diapers, do all you need to do plus store a lot (like a triple stroller) in the back. There are lots of cup holders for all the sippy cups in years to come. Your kids can't touch each other (read: bother, fight). If one throws up, it doesn't get all over the other two. Although I found it hard to swallow at first, there's a reason so many moms drive minivans. They are exactly what you need for the early years, especially for a bunch of kids, which is where you start with triplets.

Sigh, I had to give up my beloved Bug for a minivan. We got a pre-owned Honda Odyssey as well.

I traded my Volvo 60 for a Ford Expedition. We love it. I wish I had bought the extended length for extra cargo space. The regular length is perfect for storing strollers and our backpack, but leaves no room for groceries. (I loved that car!)

I had a cute little VW Beetle when I found out I was expecting triplets. I sold that and we leased a Honda Odyssey. I never thought I would like a mini van either, however, I just LOVE this car. Definitely at least do a test drive in either a Toyota Sienna or the Odyssey. They handle amazingly well and it is so easy to get the kids in and out. Lots of cargo space for strollers and other baby gear too. Our Odyssey also has the DVD player in the back...great for long trips or times we are stuck in traffic!

Our other car is a Honda Civic. We are able to fit three Sunshine Radian carseats in the back no problem. You can measure the backseat width and get an idea of which carseats will fit. The Sunshine Radian 65 or 80 are two of the narrowest carseats on the market and are also very sturdy. You would have to check the weight allowances though...I believe they start at 7 lbs but I cannot be sure about that!

I drove the "minivan" for a while. Hated it! I have a Yukon XL now and will never go back to such a cramped vehicle. Good luck finding something . . . .

Hi Julie,

We are soon to be a family of 9 with triplets coming in Sep. We desperately need a full size van.
Do you recommend one and what was your exp. with yours?

Thanks,
Eva

When we saw the first ultrasound we set about changing both of our cars. Bye-bye, Lexus IS350 and Infiniti FX35. What we made a mistake doing was we resisted the minivan and got a Kia Rondo with a third row seat. We 'thought' that was going to be my car and would be perfect for hauling the babies. What you don't think of is (1) the stuff and (2) the manuevering you do to put the babies in and out of the car. We ended up trading in for a Chrysler Town & Country minivan with swivel and go seating. Our second row of captain chairs usually face the rear of the van so mom and dad can hop in and buckle the girls in the rear. We could not live without the autodoors and auto starter system (or the DVD players honestly -- there is a strong Strawberry Shortcake DVD addiction currently). We have room for everything and our Radian 80's are perfect in the rear or however we configure.
As a former Audit TT driver who puked when I went to 4-doors, I completely understand your thought process. BUT, as a word of warning, don't make any rash decisions while you are pregnant. You can still have a set of cool wheels that fill your baby hauling dreams!!
