#921, "Breast Pumps"
|
I am 19 weeks pregnant with boy triplets and my latest worry is regarding breastfeeding and buying a breast pump. Does anyone have any recommendations or words of wisdom?? Thank you! Sue

Hi!
Congrats on your trips! I would recommend you rent a pump from the hospital for a couple reasons. First, those pumps are higher powered and pump faster, even when doing both at once. Second, some women are unable to breastfeed for many reasons such as, milk doesn't come in, there isn't enough milk, the children have allergies that require a very strict diet for mom and it isn't feasible, there isn't time, the milk dries up due to stress or lack of sleep... etc.
If after a month or two of having the trips at home you still want to buy a pump, then go ahead. For me, the girls were all allergic to milk proteins and I could not maintain a totally milk free diet (no milk even in baking) The time requirement was also hard but could be done. A friend of mine had her mild dry up due to stress, and neither my sister (who had her boy 4 hours before our trips), my husbands sister (who had twins a week before our trips), nor I, never got enough in.
You may also want to do a search on breast pumps on the main board.
Hope this helps!
