#726, "Van, Suburban, or SUV???"
|
Hey everyone!
My wife and I are expecting triplets in the fall (1st & last try!)
All we have is a Ford F-150 and a Grand Prix. I need a vehicle that can move three babies, a poodle, and all that baby equipment & stuff.
What van, suburban, or SUV is best on fuel and allows enough room for us in your opinion?

My sister-in-law drives a Toyota Sienna LE 8 passenger van. It works great with all three babies. They have all three across and can get all there stuff in the back.

Gotta give my kuddos to the Toyota Sienna van- we have the XLE with the sliding doors and with arms full of babies, diaper bags, cell phones etc etc, I could not do without it. The warranty and gas mileage were selling points for us, as well as the fact that we could configure the seats so that other passengers could ride with us- even with 3 car seats. On an additional note, you should consider a triple decker stroller frame with the snap into bases carseats- it is the other triplet must have for the first year...they are available pre-owned on ebay all the time, and when the frame is folded it fits easily into the cargo space of my sienna. Hope that helps! Helene, mom of Eli, Natalie, and CJ Attachment

Thanks, everyone, for the replies!
First of all, I must announce to the world that I have three little baby girls coming to live at my house in a few months. They are 18 weeks and 2 days in development, and they - and mom - are doing well so far!!! But still...if anyone has any extra prayers out there, we will need them so that all goes well with delivery, etc.
Secondly, I must admit that my wife and I have recently been looking at several vehicle options and think we like the Town & Country the best at this point. I am glad to hear that someone else with triplets likes that vehicle so well, too..
Still open to other suggestions...

Congratulations on your upcoming triplets! We have GGG too, just over 3 and a half years old now.
We also have the Chrysler T&C, and have been very happy with it. No problems at all, and it has been very easy to get the kids in and out as well as carry everything we need.
We have the TripleDecker stroller, and have been very happy with it also. It uses the infant seats for the frist year or so, so you can snap the kids in and out without waking them, and after they grow out of the infant seats you can easily convert it to use toddler seats. The stroller easily folds up and fits in the back of the van. Our girls still love riding in the stroller, and they are all 35 to 40 lbs and about 40" tall now.
We also have a couple of umbrella strollers that we've used occasionally when we were only taking one or two of the girls out.
Good luck with everything. You can find additional information on www.father2father.com. This is a website that is primarily for fathers of multiples. Steve Proud dad to Dana, Valerie & Madeline 10/2/2002 And Carly! 2/22/07

Darin,
First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!!! That's wonderful news! My wife's expecting triplets around Christmas (tomorrow's 13 weeks). We're in a similar situation. I've got a Ford F-150 Supercrew and my wife's got a VW Passat Wagon. Both manuals read that you should be able to attach 3 car seats to the 2nd row. I WAS able to fit all 3 in the 2nd row of the truck cab, but I can't position the driver's seat far enough back to drive with all 3 car seats in there (I'm 6'2"):( ..Oh well. I was hoping to be able to keep the truck and put a cab on the back. No such luck. We haven't tested the Passat yet? Has anyone else been able to fit all 3 car seats in the 2nd row?
I'll be at home with the kids, so my truck will DEFINITELY be going away. We've decided to pick out the stroller and car seats we want first and then we're going to go look at new vehicles. That way we can make sure that everything fits without any surprises. Both the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey Mini-Vans seem to be popular options from my reading on the site. Additionally, both the GMC Yukon XL and Chevrolet Suburban seem to be quite popular, as well. I like the fact that we, as a family could grow into the Yukon XL/Suburban and have ample storage, as well as towing capacity for vacations, outings, etc. However, I think that the Sienna/Odyssey would probably be a bit more friendly for the first few years and would definitely be a bit better in the gas department. Does anyone have any thoughts on that?
Eagerly awaiting our trio... Doug
