#559, "Need new cordless phone. What brand?"
|
Well, I believe our phone is on it's last leg. It is a Southwestern Bell Freedom Phone 2.4GH w/ answering machine. I never have liked it. It picks up too much background noise while I'm talking to people. People on the other end can almost hear pin drop in my house. Even my mother, who is hard of hearing can easily hear my kids talking quietly. While I can hardly hear the caller without pressing my ear hard to the phone. And this is on a "quiet" day in our household. I've called my house before and talked to DH and the background noise is loud. I'm looking for a cordless phone w/answering machine that isn't like this. I hate people hearing everything I do (go to the bathroom LOL!) my kids, TV etc. while I'm talking to them. I need something that is easy to work as my children are beginning to answer and use the phone. Also wall- mountable so it doesn't take up counter space.
Does anyone have any recommendations? What phones do you have? What differences are in the 900MH, 2.4GH and 5GH? I've looked around and I just have no idea what to get. I'm afraid of running into the background noise problem again and the phones I see don't mount or recharge on the wall.

we have a couple of vtech 2.4 mhz phones and are very happy. Also I use one in the basement where there is no phone jack. All it requires is power. It helped not having to run a phone cable/line.
Happy shopping

Just wanted to let you know vtechs have been a disaster for me. I owned one years ago that went bad within a year. I bought the very costly 2.4 GHz set that accommodates multiple phones all over the house (we live on a multistory) and several of them went bad; I kept replacing them at great cost. I am at the point where I will NEVER buy a vtech again.
But I have no idea which if any of the others are any better. I'll use some of the guidance here.

I also love Uniden - they are the best brand, IMHO. The 2.4 mghz will give you less static and interference. We have a "base" type phone with handsets that go with it, so the base is mounted on the wall in the kitchen, and I have a handset in the living room and one in the nursery (that one has the ringer turned all the way down, lol). I really love those base kits - the handsets just plug into an electrical outlet, no phone jack needed! They also work as walkie talkies to each other, so DH can be in the basement and I can be in the nursery (or even outside) and we can talk to each other. LOVE IT! A good Uniden set like this will run you $120 or so, but I've seen them at Sam's and BJ's for less.

We use the Panasonic KX-TG2314. It has the extra handsets that don't require a phone jack; great and convenient! The reception is excellent and we have never had a problem with static or echoing. They sell them at Costco last I checked. Good luck!!
