#1385, "Swing to sleep"

I have a problem with my 12 month old (10 mnths adjusted) boy where he doesn't fall asleep in the crib anymore. We now have to put him in the swing until he falls asleep and then move him over to his crib. Sometimes when I know he'll be sleeping for no more than 2 hours I will leave him in the swing (for his naps). Does anyone know if this is bad for him? Any reason I shouldn't do this? He normally was an excellent sleeper and this is new since he started teething.

I personally wouldn't suggest doing the swing because it may become habit for him and you will have a harder time later on. I have heard a lot of 12 month olds go through some sleep issues. Have you tried giving him a dose of Tylenol right before bed? This helps ours when they are teething really bad. Also try brushing their gums/ teeth right before bed. It helps sooth the teething pain.
We had to put a night light in their room early on because our boy seems to hate the dark. This helped a lot. Also each baby has their own glow worm/ seahorse in their bed, and when they wake up they will turn them on to sooth them back to sleep.
I hope some of this might help.

What's the weight limit on that swing?! He won't be able to swing much longer. Transitions only get harder as they get older. I agree with pp...ditch the swing. Separate him and let him CIO a little.

Swinging to sleep at his age is a bad idea. He is probably going through a normal period of bad sleep. This isn't the last time this will happen. Give motrin before bed if you think it is teething related. Otherwise, CIO is probably your best option. Every few months it seemed like we needed to do it again for a couple of days to get things straightened out.

I agree. I took our swings away a few weeks ago (which we used for one before naps) and started CIO, and now they STTN too. I definitely wouldn't want to start a bad habit this late in the game. Can you separate the one in another room while you CIO? I had to put one of my boys in another room for Naps, but at night I did CIO in their own room and others slept through it fine, but for Naps they wouldn't ever go to sleep, after the seperation on the one, they all slept fine! GL & hopefully this is a short phase.
