#7432, "New baby on the way...sleeping arrangements?"

Our triplets will be 3 in March and we are expecting baby #4 in early June. I do not know what to do for sleeping arrangements? We live in a 3 bedroom home and the triplets share a room now with the other bedroom as a play room. I love having a play room because it keeps toys out of the living room and the bedroom. I was wondering what others in our situation did when baby number 4 came? I have contiplated putting baby #4 in the same bedroom with the others when he is sleeping through the night because the triplets are so used to noise that I don't think a cry at night would bother them, then they could still have a play room, has any one done this? I have also considered making one room the boy room and one the girl room, but then we have toys in both rooms and probably in the living room. It is not a big house so we are running out of room. We are saving so that we can move in about 2 years so everyone can have their own room, but right now I have got to figure something out! Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Rachel

My boys turned 3 in April and we had number 4 in June. We also had the third bedroom as a play room. They lost their play room and the baby got her own bedroom. I really don't think you can put the baby in the room with the triplets. My daughter has been sleeping through the night but they are on different schedules. The baby goes to sleep before the triplets and would not be able to sleep through the bed time routine of the triplets. I would say keep baby number 4 in your room as long as possible. We wound up finishing our basement so now we have a huge family/play room. It has been our salvation.

We also live in a 3 bedroom house and had baby #4 when the triplets were 18 1/2 months old. The triplets have a room and the baby has her own room for now. Evenutally I will do a boys room and girls room. But honestly, their schedules were so different at first, that I think it would have been impossible. Even now she is proving to be a much shorter napper than they are (which is awful!) so I'm waiting to move big sister into the room.

That being said, we have a small sunroom that we use for toys. Can you maybe divide the living room up a bit, maybe move the couch into the room 5-6 feet and have a small play area behind it? I would try and make use of every inch (porch, basement) for play and keep the two bedrooms for the kids. Another idea would be to keep toys in totes by category and store them in closets/under the crib. Only take out a few a day into the living room.
Hope this helps!

I don't have a +one, but we needed our third bedroom back, because I needed a guest bedroom for visiting family, so what we did was give the girls the master bedroom and we moved into on of the bedrooms and created a guest bedroom/office (sort of). I combined the playroom and nursey into our master and have been VERY happy with it, so far!

Our # 4 was born when the triplets were 20 months old and we live in a 3 bedroom as well. We kept the triplets together and put the baby in her own room. Their play room became a gated area in an area off the kitchen.
I considered moving the baby in with the 3, but the schedules were really just too different. As it was, they would wake her up and she was constantly thrown off on her sleep schedules. Even now she does not get nearly the sleep she needs.

When she was 14 months old and the triplets were almost 3, we moved the big kids out of their cribs and into beds. At that time, we split the kids up- boys room and girl's room. And I also moved a few toys into their rooms.
Good luck!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! Luckily we have time, but I let this type of stuff stress me out and consume me! Oh well! We live in Texas so basements are out, but I am going scan my house for extra space! LOL!

Our girls were born 2 months before the boys turned 3. They slept in a P&P in our room for a month or so. We moved them to mini cribs in the boys room after. At 9 months they are still there, and we are now looking to buy a new bigger place. Grandma (babysitter extraordinaire)lives with us in our little 1400 sq/ft house, so the third bedroom is out.

Thanks!

Night time sleeping is going well. The boys don't wake up for anything. The babies are lighter sleepers, but usually can be settled with a pat and some shushing. Afternoon napping is our biggest issue. The boys can go without a nap for a day or two, but the babies absolutely need both their naps daily. If they are all in there in the afternoon it just turns into a party. Since poor napping leads to poor overnights, we've mostly eliminated the boys' quiet time/nap. If I had a singleton I'd carve out a corner for a p&p in our room at naptime only.

The first couple months were pretty difficult- especially having to bring babies out of the room to feed/nurse. It was too unsettling for them. I never could really "dream feed" like I did the boys in their dark quiet room. Once they hit 11-12 pounds though, they STTN-Yay!
