#7648, "sleeping arrangements/beds"

Hi there. I have 5 kids. My 6 year old son has his own room. My GGB 3 year old triplets share a room and our 18 month old is in a crib in my bedroom. My triplets are very tall and are starting to outgrow their crib/toddler beds (converted to beds). We are conflicted about what to do next. 3 twin beds won't fit in their bedroom with 2 bureaus (already there). My younger boy is too young to room in with older boy and youngest is on a different sleep schedule than the triplets. We think the triplets are too young for bunk beds. What do we do? We don't have another larger room for them and can't move right now. Anyone have thoughts on other bed or room arrangements that we can try? Any thoughts would be appreciated!!

The only thing I can think of is twin beds with a trundle.

I'm not sure why 3 and 6 year old boys can't room together. My sister and I were 2 years apart and shared a room. 3 years doesn't seem too far apart. Maybe you could buy bunks and a twin for the boys' room. You wouldn't need to put the upper bunk up yet but get the matching furniture now. That way when your youngest son is old enough there are beds for all of them in the boys' room. You could get twin beds for your girls. I guess that would still leave the 18 month old sleeping in your room for now but I'm stumped on a solution for that one.

Mostly because one is 3 and the other is 6. The 6 yr. old has a different sleeping schedule and toys in his room that are dangerous for the 3 year old. He just turned 3 and the 6 year old is 6 1/2. Maybe it's not a big deal. I don't know.

My boys each have bunk beds in their rooms. They started sleeping on them right after they turned 3. So you might want to think about that again.

As the first poster said, two twin beds and one trundle. Or a full size bed with a trundle.

Another option would be to buy the twin mattresses without the bed frame, and place them on the floor until your boys are old enough for a bunkbed. That may take up less space.

Is there any way you can move the bureaus out of the room or place them in their closet? Our gggs used to have a very small room, and we didn't have anything in it besides the beds due to the lack of space.

I know you said bunks were out, BUT I saw these amazing bunks at IKEA today. They are very low. I'm only 5'3" tall and I could easily have reached into the top bunk. They say they fit twin matresses. I love in a tiny house and my 3 year olds are outgrowing their convertible toddler beds. I was thinking of 2 of these. Putting my best behaved girl on the top and 2 on the bottom. Maybe you could hold off for 6 more months, put your 2 best behaved on the tops when they are 4 and move your then 2 year old into the bottom mattress of the other? Or put a pack and play under the top bunk of 1? Truly, I am a worrywart and even I felt my kids would be fine in these.

I have five boys, too! I have Jack and the baby together - T goes to sleep at 7, so by the time Jack goes to bed (at 8) he's out cold, and if Jack wants to read I have him read in our room and then go to his bed. The triplets are together. I have Abraham on top because he is spry and agile and doesn't move or get up in the night, but he doesn't want to be on the top any more (he feels he doesn't get snuggled as much up there). We are looking at trundle beds for them next, and we are giving them the master bedroom. When we do that we'll move Jack and the baby to the bigger bedroom and leave their little room for a study/guest room. (We'll be moving to the basement playroom - but we are so not there yet!)

I know this is unconventional, but how about converting the master into the triplets' room and you take their room? I'm assuming the master is more spacious than their room.

Another thought is to move the bureaus out of their room and into the 6-yr-old's room or anywhere else for that matter.

You can also get a twin and a queen instead of 3 twins. Or maybe 1 queen will fit all 3 kids for now?

Did I mention our rooms are tiny, and that the dressers are in the closets?
