Just wondering how everyone is doing with Kindergarten and how were your conferences with their teachers?

I can't believe the the growth my girls have showed just since September. Pretty amazing.

Lisa,

I have to say I was very happy with the progress the kids have made as reported at p/t conferences. I went in a bit nervous. They have stopped fighting with each other, are giving each other the space they desire, and they are all following the class routine nicely.

You were right! Give them a few weeks to settle in and they worked everything out themselves

Now if this would just work on the bickering at home

So are the girls finally opening up and answering questions when asked? Yours didn't want to open their mouths....mine couldn't keep theirs closed. Maybe if we switched Graces' they could help each other out with that.

So my kids are still geniuses. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha.

I just couldn't believe where they were in August and where they are now.

And I gotta say: I did a bad thing by comparing them to the other kids, but I couldn't help it. And there are a lot of advanced kids in their class. I couldn't believe the level some of them were at academically. Let's just say; we were not there. LOL!

But, with some extra work at home drilling with flashcards and computer games, we're catching up nicely.

All of my slacking when they were babies is coming back to haunt me, but they're making major strides.

MSTAR, no news is good news.

Kim~

Glad to hear your kids are doing well and being mindful of their space. I don't know how many times a day I say: KEEP YOUR HANDS TO YOURSELF!

My girls are slowly getting out of their shyness and particpating. They're definitely used to their routine. And not once have they ever said: I don't wanna go to school!

I hope I don't jinx myself!

Not sure if we should switch Graces since mine is the spokesperson/loudmouth for the trio.

We have P/T Conferences on Monday for 2 kids, and I am excited and a little nervous about it. I can't wait to see how the teacher feels about them together and how they are really behaving in class. Not just how they are telling me they are in class. LOL

We had our parent teacher conference a couple of weeks ago. The teacher said my kids are very shy and quiet especially the girls. Academically, DS and DD #1 is at the top of the class. We were glad to hear that DD #2 was in the middle range of the class and doing just fine because we were afraid DD #2 would have to repeat kindergarten next year. There are several kids in their class that were held back last year. DS and DD #1 are just so MUCH more advanced than DD #2 that I am constantly thinking she is behind, KWIM. It has always been like that since they were toddlers.

The teacher said DS is the most outgoing of the three and that he seem to have a photograhic memory. He reportedly sometimes clashes with another girl at the same table who also likes to take charge. The teacher also said that DS's math skills are way beyond the kindergarten level but he has been good about doing the work anyway and not complaining. She said she just hasn't have the time to give him more challenging work because she has had to work with several kids who are struggling. I didn't tell her that DS complains at home saying "we don't even do math in school".

The teacher asked me if I plan on separating them in the first grade and I still don't know what I'll do. DD #2 is kind of mischievious and she tends to be a bad influence on DD #1. DD #1 and DS are very good together. I don't think it would be fair to have DS and DD #1 in the same class and DD #2 by herself. All three said they want to be in the same class in first grade.

I got their progress reports today and they all exceed standards in every category and are exhibiting "exceptional progress".

Proof that if you enroll your children in one of the worst school districts in the nation with a bar set impossibly low, your children WILL be geniuses. Woohoo.

Hmmmm....I got the opposite report card on my trio.

They got NE (not exhibiting) in many of the categories. The academic categories were for the most part just fine....it was the "listening to instructions", "paying attention", "finishing work", and "talking at appropriate times" categories that were marked NE.

Nice.

Ugh.

Well, keep in mind mine only go to school for 2.5 hours. How hard is it to pay attention for 2.5 hours?

I think next year will be a whole different ball game for mine.

Sadly, my boys only go to school for 2.5 hours. I think if they went to school all day and had frequent play/gross motor breaks, they might be doing better in the attention area!

One of them refused to do the work the teacher asked him to do right before Thanksgiving. Each child had a flip chart and each was supposed to write (with group instruction) a Buffalo Hunt story and illustrate it. There were like 6 pages and sentences with some words the kids don't know yet, but were supposed to copy from the model.

The Buffalo Hunt
I dig a big hole.
I hide in a cave.
We chase the buffalo.
We circle the buffalo.
We have food, a new house and new clothes.

I could tell you NONE of my boys could actually do this task recognizably. Not a prayer. It would take them 5 minutes to try to write the word Buffalo!

But, ONE of my children decided he wasn't even going to make an attempt and said to his teacher, "I don't do that kind of work!" What 5-year-old child has the cajones to say this to an adult?

ONE of my children sat helplessly by...he has fine motor problems and an IEP so writing is very difficult for him. He probably just started humming to himself/amusing himself because without one/one help on a task like this, he wouldn't know where to begin.

Can't figure out WHAT the 3rd one did. He insisted he DID do the task. His teacher said he DIDN'T.

They attempted it again 2 days later, and this time each child produced something...completely unrecognizable and the teacher said, "unable to complete task."

I probably would have been crying in kindergarten if my teacher asked me at age 5 years and 4 months to write the word buffalo and to actually write out that many sentences!

ETA: I started another post about this, so it may sound familiar if you read my other post!
