I believe most bunk beds have a warning posted on them that says not to allow chilldren under 6 on the beds. My kids are 9 too, and I remember Kim's son Noel's accident well. We have loft beds in the girls room, and a set of bunk beds in David's, but he still prefers to sleep on the bottom, and gets nervous to climb up top. We didn't get them until our kids were 6 or 7, probably because I was scared to death after Kim's nightmare.
