Yeah, I'm willing to pay the extra $60/bike to get the front shocks.. and a few other 'nicer' components.
As for the trailer/speed issue - yeah, that's a concern. Our subdivision gets decent traffic, but speed bumps and stop signs keep the speeds down on most vehicles, which is nice. There are also some nice riding trails (mostly paved) along the riverfront that would be a lot of fun to ride!
