#355, "Head injury, extra kid and company for the weekend"

Hello everyone! This week I started taking my friends almost 5 yr old from 7-4 weekdays while his normal sitter is on maternity leave. He's a good boy and not hard to have around. Monday was a rough start though because last week while at my same friends house, Allison had a sledding accident where she flew past the ditch at the bottom of their large hill and up 5' in the air and landed on the road! This is while I was at work, so I'm getting details from my friend. She didn't lose consciousness, or have any major symptoms of a problem. However, on Saturday my dh noticed a large soft area at the back of her head and I called the urgent care facility near our house (like a small ER). They said if she acts fine, she's probably fine. I still brought her in on Monday (with 4 small kids) and the doctor was concerned that she could have cracked her skull - so they scheduled a head CT for an hour later, so I packed up the 4 small kids, ran them through McDonalds (of course it had to be lunch time too) and then got to the radiology facility. My dh met us there and watched the other 3 while I held her hand for the scan. Luckily the test came back normal - but it still feels the same, so it must take a long time to have those fluids reabsorb into the body. I am nervous she'll hit her head again before it heals. Her neck is black and blue where it's settling down below the injury. People cringe when I let them feel it. She isn't bothered by touching, but a bump of course is painful.
Other than that, Jared is back to school this week and participates in basketball and Boy Scouts right now. We also bought a kid's snowmobile 2 weeks ago and he loves to ride that. Nathan has also showed us he can handle driving it too which is fun to watch. We alter the throttle so it can't go faster than say someone jogging, but he loves it too. We tried letting Emily drive and she either can't or doesn't understand steering, so the girls don't drive (Allison hasn't shown any interest). They get rides though when they want to. They all love to go sliding, so we do lots of that. The little ones and I go to story hour each week on Wednesdays which is nice.
This weekend we have dh's sister and her 3 kids (4,6,10) coming to stay with us, so we'll be busy. I already had concert tickets to Rascal Flatts, so I get to go out Saturday night and dh will have to entertain them.
Have a great weekend everyone - hope to catch up again like this next week!
