I have my kids in a GREAT preschool class at the zoo on thursday mornings. It's through our parks and rec dept and it's only an hour. We usually go wander the zoo before or after that which also is a fun activity.

It's designed especially for preschoolers, they read a story, do a craft, talk about the animal of the week, pet it (if possible) or they'll have an animal skin, etc. VERY educational and so much fun. Many zoo's have these kind of programs.

Also the Book Mobile comes to our neighborhood on Wed. so we always walk up to that. We have a neighborhood playgroup on either Wed or Fri depending on the week. We try to keep things pretty unstructured (we travel quite a bit too with my hubby for work).
