If your son likes the computer, starfall.com has a really nice site. The teachers in our district like it a lot. You can choose their "reading" level...the first level being letters and letter sounds. One of my sons really took to this program!

Another good idea - especially if he is more of a "hands on" learner, is to cut the letters out of sandpaper and have him "trace" the sandpaper letters with his hands. Another method is to have him "write" the letters in shaving cream. These are all multi-sensory experiences that might make it easier for him to learn his letters.

As far as math goes...my kids love to use treats as counting devices. I like mini-M&M's for this. So, if they count successfully up to whatever, they get to eat them . As they progress, we use the same mini-M&M's to compare sets (which set has more...eat that set, complete the pattern successfully...eat that set, what is 1 + 2...get it right eat that set.) They are amazingly successful with this motivation .

I also picked up some cheap workbooks at Target and did what Megan did -- tore them apart and put them in sheet protectors so we can use the same worksheets over and over.

Remember, math isn't just about the numbers...it is recognizing sets, predicting the next shape or color in a pattern, learning the actual numbers (obviously), learning less vs more...get some preschool workbooks to have some fun with this!
