I vote for preschool. I don't think they will NEED 2 years of repetitive instruction. If you are not worried about academics and they are getting therapy, I think you'll be covered in teh fine motor department. And as you said you can do some things at home too.

My girls got an extra year of preschool ONLY for the social aspect. They did much of the same stuff in the 5s class as they did in the 4s. They just started earlier in the year and they had many opportunities to practice writing letters and numbers, alphabet recognition, etc. They also got ASL and Spanish, but really only small exposure.

I wasn't too worried about pushing them, as I thought academically they could have done K. It was a good year for them to just be little a while longer.

They are now in 1st grade. Three of them are reading above grade level- 2 are reading at 3rd and 4th grade level. One is just where she needs to be and really just needs confidence. They are grasping math concepts quite easily. Three are struggling with all the other 1st graders with letter/number formation, caps vs. lower, etc. When I say struggling, I mean they all need some practice, which they get in class. So I would say it's developmentally appropriate for this age.

I think mine would have done fine academically if they had gone on time. We didn't have the therapy issues that you have, either. I think they would have been capable of learning most concepts as they were presented in class. The writing would still be the same, whether it was last year or this.

Oh, and FWIW, those with fine motor issues may still have them later. I just told my DS9 to cut out his study cards for his test. He came back and said "I'm not very good at cutting a straight line". He's in 3rd grade and DESPISES handwriting. He's had some fine motor therapy himself. I remember getting "the talk" from the preschool teacher about him not being able to cut. (REmember "Everybody Loves Raymond" when one of the twins might be held back in preschool because he couldn't use scissors?) They wanted me to have him practice at home. I laughed...I had 4 toddlers in the house and not a one of those 5 kids was going to have scissors.

But you said you would practice, so my initial vote stands.
