#2890, "RE: To seperate or not in kindergarten?"

I think it was on the MOST website, that I found a list of questions to ask the teacher as to whether multiples should be together or apart. Actually, it might have been from ERIC digest, a resource for teachers that was also on-line. I copied the questions into an e-mail to their preschool teacher and her input really helped me to decide. I did keep all 3 of them together because they seemed to do OK in the same class at PS. We did end up having some issues with one DD being in the other's shadow. The DD stuck in the shadow actually asked to be in a separate class for 1st grade and we honored that request. (Our kindy teacher did several things that made the shadow bigger showing her lack of experience in dealing with mult's.--my more outgoing DD was put 1st in line all year while her taller sister was put at the very end of the line)
We have them split 2 and 1 for 1st and they are doing pretty well. My plan is to have a different child on their own each year. We do have issues with one class getting something but not the other but I just let them know that's gonna happen. Try to remind them of a time that the roles were reversed (yes, she got a brownie and you didn't but remember last week when you two got suckers and she didn't) That sort of thing is just part of life.
As for the Aug. BD, mine were due in Oct but born within a week of when yours were. We chose to wait a year, so they turned 6 a week or 2 after starting kindergarten and it has been great. DS really needed to wait. One girl was very ready and is now doing 2nd grade reading even though she's in 1st. I think the extra year though gave them time to mature a bit more. (especially important for boys) Then DH read "Outliers" and that made us even happier with our decision. The year after we started, the district changed the dates so that they would not have even been eligible to start until when we did.
There is some pressure from the school to put all 3 in different classes but since there is only one of me I'd rather not have to be divided between 3 teachers.
