This is where I get stumped, too. I agree with you completely on this. I do not really want for my children to be moved into an older age group and this is where the rub comes in. And, like cdemp, I don't think I know anyone who wishes that they had to go out into the work market one year sooner.

IF they allowed kindergarteners to work to their own levels, I would not be dealing with this issue at all. They would be in a reading group at their level and a math group at their level, and they would be learning while they were also socializing with the children who are at their same age. This would be the best answer.

And, come first grade, there should be no issues at all. First grade curriculum goes all the way up to fourth grade academics, and the children are grouped according to where they are in their skills and knowledge. So, it appears that the real issue is simply for this year.
