That's part of my problem, Michele. Their class is 4 hours long, including a lunch hour. So, by the time they get home, they're fed up with it. We work at the table on worksheets after that, but this means that either they are not learning anything new and spending 4 hours learning rectangles and how to write numbers 1 through 5, or, they spend 4 hours with that and then spend another hour or two learning spelling and math and language arts, etc. This just seems like a major "all or nothing" proposal and I never like the extreme options.

It seems to me that they should be spending the 4 to 5 hours at school learning the things they are now learning after school, and come home and play. But, maybe this is alright? After all, if they get home at 12:15 and spend until about 2:00 on school pages, then they are in school the same hours as the first graders and they are getting to move ahead at their own pace -- as opposed to being held back or pushed forward at different paces...
