#1018, "letting them taste table food"
|
Hi everyone, the boys are 8 months and everyone keeps telling me to let them taste this and that and give them cheerios. When is the right time to introduce them? They watch our every bite as we eat. right now they r having 2jars (stage3) between them and cereal at night plus formula throughout the day..I don't want to over feed them. The doctor said if they dont want it they will let you know..I am just unsure about table foods, people are driving me crazy.

My boys were completely on table food by 10 months so I don't think 9 months is too early to introduce table foods. Just feed them what you eat minus the spices. I would serve steamed apples in small, mushy pieces. They loved toast with melted cheese and butter on it. Very soft and small pieces. Pasta, meatloaf, etc. Just use common sense and take it slow. Pieces of banana were also a favorite.
This is only my experience but I do have friends that waited a longer time to introduce table foods and their kids are picky eaters. My kids eat anything!
Best wishes,

Hi Terry!! My three are nine months and I have been giving them different things for a while now. I just make sure it is mushy or getts mushy with moisture. My three love gram crackers, ritz crackers, rice cakes, toast, shredded cheeses, yogurt, ricotti cheese, cottage cheese, pastina with cheese, of course cheerios, kix, wheat bread, pasta, diced peaches, diced pears, canned green beans, canned carrots and there may be something I am leaving out I just can't think. Ask your pedi and go with what is comfortable for you. Kids at this age WILL not over eat.

I'm a rare mom that was nervous about Cheerios when my kids started solids. I went with Rice Krispies and Kix - both seems to implode and dissolve faster than Cheerios. After a couple of mos we graduated to Cheerios.
If they look interested in what you are eating give them a little taste - make sure it's a small enough bite so they don't choke and not too hard - no raw veggies, etc.
Keep in mind that b'milk or formula is supposed to be the main source of nutrition for babies until they are one year old. Solids at this age are just for practice and taste experimentation - not really for meals.
