hi ladies.

i'm hoping someone may be able to give me some suggestions on how to hide my year old baby belly in an oh-not-so-flattering bridesmaid's dress.

i lost very little of my 75 lb. pregnancy weight gain over this past year, but i figured once i quit pumping, the weight would melt off...i stopped pumping in nov. and have lost MAYBE a pound or two. i've been working out regularly for about a week and a half now (and hoping to keep it up through the wedding date, which is late feb), but i won't be able to lose enough weight to make a difference in how this bridesmaid dress looks!! (i'm also doing lower carb/lower fat/ watching what i'm eating, but a real strict diet,like south beach or atkins, isn't realistic for me now.) i've got one of those pull-on gut-sucker things, but that only helps smooth out the lumps. i'm looking to get something that holds it all in...i'm seriously looking for a corset that i can tighten and tie. any idea where i can get one--either on line or at a chain store?

I found a really pretty one for under my wedding gown in Fredricks of Hollywood. It wasn't really skimpy, just a pretty lacy corset. They had a few different ones. That was the only place I could find one that laced up like I wanted. Good luck on finding exactly what you are looking for.

i looked at some of their stuff on-line, and i have a store holding one of them for me so i can go try it on with the dress.

if you don't mind me asking, did it take inches off, or make a big difference in how your dress fit ?

I was a cute chubby bride...lol so I needed a corset and after search all over I found one at Rich's I guess they are called Rich's-Macy's.

Victoria or Sears has body shapers believe but if sexy is what you want corsets are better.

thanks for the suggestion- i might look there as the fredrick's ones are really pricey.

i'm laughing at the image in my head of me looking "sexy" in a corset...i'm getting one because my belly skin and fat hangs over the elastic band in my underwear, and the fat that has accumulated in my hips and around my chest has added inches and inches (and plenty of funny bulges) to my torso. i'm guessing that in a corset, i'll look a bit skinnier through the waist, but i'll have all sorts of chubbiness squeezing out of the top and bottom! don't get me wrong, i don't begrudge the fact that i gained all of this extra weight...it got me 3 healthy children and helped me to breastfeed for a year, but i do resent the fact that it is taking it's sweet time in going away!!!!

thankfully, my husband had been incredibly supportive and still (at least says and acts as if he) finds me appealing, but if a corset can make ME think i look sexy, no price is too high!!!!!

princess fiona, your reply is something that i would have written to someone else! you are right, no one else cares that i am still bigger. i don't normally worry about the weight too much, either. i am what i am right now and i am thankfully every day that all of my body parts work and are, relatively, healthy!

i'm not a vain person, but for this one event, this one day, i want to look (and hopefully feel) like a semblance of my old self ...the "real" me, the one that used to run (let alone walk up a set of stairs without my knees hurting), and hike, and wear skirts because i looked decent in them....you know what i mean?

the other thing is that the kids aren't invited to the wedding, so everyone that sees me for the first time in a few years (without knowing that i had triplets) will be thinking, "ooh- what happened to her?!?!" ok, so this is a bit of vanity on my part....

Six weeks after giving birth to the triplets, I went to a wedding between 2 of my law school friends. Almost our entire graduating class was in attendance, and I hadn't seen anyone since we graduated 5 years ago, so it was basically as bad as a reunion in terms of feeling like I was being judged and checked out for signs of the dreaded "let herself go" or something like that. And get this...the day before the wedding was a POOL PARTY. Can you believe that?! ARGH!!!!!! Just though I'd make you feel better. At least you don't have to get into a swim suit!!!

I've used the body shapers before - I think they're functional...and sexy

The one I bought I think I originally got at Sears but I think I've seen similar at Kohls. It has bra-type straps, underwire in the bra and a deep, scoop back. It has lots of support in the tummy area and on down the hips and thighs as it is about the length of running tights - it's an all in one piece. My SIL asked me to be a bridesmaid when my boys were 6mos old. She picked a spaghetti strap low back dress. I cried and cried when she first told me and when I first saw the dress bc I'm way to big up front for spaghetti straps.

Well, the seamstress took material she had from shortening the dress and used it to make wider straps that would accomodate a bra (plus I was nursing at the time).

It all worked out. I had my hair done that morning and actually felt pretty pretty - although I must admit I made a point not to look for full body mirrors.

Good luck, I've gotten a lot of use out of this one-piece thing.

ask, this has been very good reading- i especially like the descriptions - and the pool party before the wedding 5 weeks after triplets. lol. i wore a corset type thing at my wedding too. i got it at a "foundations" store. at least that is what my gramma called it. check the phone book for specialized undergarments store and they can probably help you find what you need. i think the store i used mostly sold extra large bras and mastectomy bras, etc... and other somewhat medical or theraputic items. and wear a poster size photo of your triplets around your neck- then everyone will understand. just go and have fun. i think we are more critical of ourselves than others (outside of middle school) ever will be. terri
