I don't think they recommend it for babies under 6 months because of potential sensitivity to the sunscreen itself. I am not sure how that would apply if they are 6 months but less at an adjusted age.

I honestly don't remember what one I got but it was water resistant, 48+ SPF and came in a pink bottle that had a spray top, not a pump. I found the spray top easier to put on (and stop from leaking in any bag I put it in). It might have had Kids Safe on it, or is that the name of it .. I don't remember

I was just going to post the same question! I am also wondering about the spray on kind - whether it is easier to deal with.

No until 6 months old. Water Babies is great. It comes in a pink bottle with a baby on the front. It's waterproof and comes in SPF 45.

6 months, until then just keep them covered head to toe in the sun.

We are very strict when it comes to the sun.

We also use Water Babies 45. Be sure to remember to apply liberally and re-apply often. And a wide brimmed hat.

I can't wait for summer

I use waterbabies with the pump, for their bodies, but there is a sunscreen stick that is good for their faces. It applies easier than the lotion and it makes it easier to keep out of the eyes. At least for me!!

I asked this question to my dermatologist, and she said that whatever lotion you choose, they must have either titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. There are other similar ingredients, but these were the two she most highly recommended.

I am shocked at how many sunscreens don't have these two ingredients!! Even my favorite, old stand by's that I would use for myself didn't have at least one of them!

Baby Blanket, Baby Magic, Bull Frog are three that I have found that contain at least one of these ingredients. I personally like the spray because it's easier to apply in my opinion and also easier for on the go for the ever important reapplying!!

As for the when you can use the sunscreen on babies, my dermatologist said that she would prefer that I use something, IF the kids were going to be out in the sun, but that didn't mean that the children should be in direct sunlight for long periods of time. She emphasized avoiding the sun, and not getting overconfident about how effective the sunscreen may or may not be on a child under six months old.

Actually I did see something about this today when I went looking about not worrying too much about applying to babies under 6 months. The theory behind it was it was far better to be protected from the UV rays than it is to worry about sensitivity to sunscreen.

I guess some groups are coming around to the idea of applying to infants under 6 months as so many are being exposed to the sun at an early age.

Anything with zinc oxide or (micronized) titanium dioxide. I have heard that these actually repell the suns rays.

I usually buy the no frill baby sunblock lotion which worked fine except that sometimes someone would rub it in their eyes. Recently, I found a tear-free formula made by Banana Boat. It's somewhat more expensive, but it claims to be as mild as water and completely tear-free and if that's true it's definitely worth it.
