When do babies give up their bedtime bottle? Actually, when do you stop the bedtime bottle?

Mine gave up or should I say "I" gave up their bedtime bottles on New Years. It's been almost 2 weeks & they're doing great. They get a small sippy of warm milk before bed. I think it's more of a habit or routine then them actually needing it. When I give it to them they know it's quiet/settle down time. My trio are 17 months.

Ours were about 10 months. We had just moved into our new home and things were wtill a little crazy and we forgot one night and they slept through so we just kept going with it. I took bottles completely away once all three were using the sippe cups well, about 13months. No problems there either. they are now 15months today. Good luck!

Hi Amanda!

My babes drink a bottle in the am, sippy for lunch, sippy for pm snack, and then bottle before bed. They really don't drink all that mucn from their sippy cup. Does this improve over time?

Hey Nancy-

It did for us once they were totally switched over. I think they knew as long as the bottle was around they were going to get it. That AM bottle was the last to go be cause mine are not morning babies as I am not a morning mom. But one day I sucked it up and gave them a sippee and it worked. But they still don't drink all 7-8 oz in one sitting. They drink about half before breakfast the other half with breakfast 4-5 with lunch and the other with pm snack or if the ask for it. And 5-7 with dinner. I don't do juice and rarely do water but I am starting to do more water. HTH

Mine are 13 months and they gave up the bedtime bottle last week, they just were not interested and would actually refuse it most of the time.

This is their milk intake (we just finished switching from formula):

7:30'ish - breakfast and 9 oz bottle smoothie (with podee straw sitting in high chair) see recipe below

11:30'ish lunch with 7 oz milk in sippy

3:30'ish snack with 5 oz milk in sippy

6'ish dinner with 5 oz milk in sippy

They get their sippy (bottle in am) while I finish preparing the food, that way they do drink quite a bit before being offered solids.

Smoothie recipe:
3 oz whole milk yogurt (I use organic from Trader Joe's)
2 oz pureed fruit
4 oz whole milk (I use organic from Trader Joe's)
My kids LOVE this smoothie and drink it so fast that I barely have time to toast some waffles, then they keep sucking making slurping sounds like they're desperate for more smoothie, it's very cute really!

I would take away the morning bottle except that they were not able to drink the smoothie from their sippy when I tried. Mine have not made a fuss at all when the bottles started disappearing, I think because they were used to sitting in their high chair getting the bottles, they never were in bed or all snuggled in drinking a bottle. I think sometimes when a bottle is discontinued it's not just the missing bottle they're protesting but maybe what accompanied the bottle, like a warm lap or whatever. We've snuggled without a bottle for long time.

My trips are 16 months, and the still get a bedtime bottle that they still drink the entire thing.. I also have a 4 yr old.. and the bedtime bottle was the one bottle we let him wean himself from and he did that around 18 to 20 months... just gradually he only took it because of habit, and then one night he pushed it away, and went for his sippy cup and that was that.. I am hoping it goes that easily for my girls.. but if it doesn't we will bite the bullet around 19 months.... HTH...
