Our sweet little girls will be in the NICU for another couple of weeks and we had a question about the girls all sleeping in the same crib together for a month or two. Have any of you done this? We are in the process of selling our house and we are fighting for space.

When we brought our trio home, we had one crib in the living room, because their room is upstairs and it's too much work to go up and down the stairs all the time. They all slept in the crib, until they started getting bad reflux. They now sleep in car seats (have been for about 2 months), so we don't even really use the crib at this point. I definitely would say you could use 1 crib, they don't really start moving around much until their actual due date.

We had a similar situation where our bedroom at the time was downstairs and theirs was upstairs. They slept in one crib in our room for about 3 months. We did not use sleep positioners or swaddle. They would wiggle until they were sleeping right together. I think it comforted them. When they started wiggling too much we separated them.

We're fighting for space too, but opted to cram three cribs into one room... the boys have been in those since they came home. Early on two of them slept in bouncy chairs in their cribs and now they sleep propped on boppy like pillows, so we obviously couldn't fit three in a crib even if we wanted to.

I plan on cosleeping them in a playpen when we first get home & then in the crib. Once they start wiggling around, I am sure we will separate them.

Our trio is 10 weeks and until a few days ago they were still in a minicrib in our room, swaddled. They were starting to fight being swaddled and were also to "tall" for the minicrib, so we've separated them - our girl is the lucky one and she's been in bed since she wakes up every 2 hours to nurse. The boys are in their own cribs. So far so good!

We actually didn't use cribs for about 4 months or so... The girls each had a bassinet in our room that were lined up right next to eachother (touching actually so they were close together). After that Maddy began to be a restless sleeper and would wiggle around a lot - so she went into her own crib, and we kept Bella and Allie together for a while, just sleeping at different ends of the crib (one at the 'head' of the crib and one at the 'foot'). This worked great until they began rolling and then we split them up into their own crib because we didn't want them rolling onto eachothe

Good luck with your new house!

Hi,

we set up one crib in the living room and one crib in the bedroom at first. During the day, they often slept together in the single crib in the living room (until at least 5 months old). At night, we often separated them (2/1 split). My husband took one child and I took the other 2 (This worked best for us because of each child's individual feeding issues (one nursed, one took forever to eat, one often slept longer--My DH got to sleep with him!). We also made good use of the pack-n-plays--especially for naptime as they got older (so we could separate them during naptime!).

Good luck. I think the best thing is to be flexible--what works for my family is likely NOT the best solution for your family because each preemie has different needs.

My trio co-slept until they were almost 4-5 months old. Although I had 3 cribs I didn't want to separate them. I eventually separated them because my girls wanted to sleep through the night but my DS was still waking.

My BBB trips were cobedding in the NICU. They came home after two weeks and we continued this. We had one crib on the lower level and two upstairs. They did great with this until one of them started to really struggle with reflux around 2 months old. We moved him to his own bed and the other two stayed together until around 4 months. They were starting to wake each other up by kicking their legs. They were very soothed by being near each other. One of my boys wouldn't nap until they were all in there together!

Thanks so much everyone for your great advice. I think it sounds like co-sleeping is a great idea for us. As long as the girls agree, lol. Thanks again!
