Is anyone else getting completely crazed over this whole BPA issue?
Between this and all the toy recalls because of the lead paint scare, I got rid of all my bottles, I limit sippy cup use, I threw out all plastic toys, teething rings, pacis, I only buy fresh (not canned) veggies and fruits now, I wont store food in my Gladwarre or tupperware anymore..... Even baby formula and baby foods are in plastic containers....
It's just got me so paranoiod.... I know some plastics are good and some aren't, but I don't know what to think anymore.....i'm looking in my frig, everything is contained in plastic.... my yogurts, cream cheese, orange juice, bottled water & soda....
Even my daughter's tea-time set I threw out with all those plastic cups and spoons, etc.... I'm probably being overly cautious, but it's got me so freaked out now b/c of all of this coverage of it.....
Anyone else as paranoid right now? Or do I just need to chill out.. _______________________________________

Honestly, I think a lot of this is being over-hyped by the media (which is their job after all).... We're still using our Dr. Brown's bottles and I've not gone through and cleaned out all their toys, teething rings, etc.
Seeing as you asked, yes, I think you need to chill out. Helen

I was watching theToday show last week when they were talking about the plastics and the BPA's and such. Here is a web site they gave to read more about the plastics and what is safe and what isn't. I haven't checked it out myself yet. Hope you can getto it. www.IATP.org

Yes. I'm freaked out. I threw out every single plastic plate and cup yesterday. Then I went out today and bought little glasses for them and they are now eating off of only ceramic and glass. I'm throwing out the Tupperware tomorrow and going with Pyrex containers for food storage. But the worse is the canned food. The canned food is by far worse than any plastic cup or plate and there is no way around it. Even organic food that comes in cans is lined with BPA. I'm done buying anything in cans. I WILL NOT buy canned food again. PERIOD! Michele Sarah, Gregory, Amanda born 1/22/04 at 35w1d

It's great to try to be as healthy as possible, but come on. Can you really avoid all these things? Something is going to get you in the end no matter what you do. The funniest thing I heard related to contaminants was regarding a water issue in my neighborhood. We have high levels of radium in the water, which they are working to reduce. So everyone was crazed about having their kids drink bottled water only. Nothing from the tap at all, even for cooking. Ha, what a PITA. Anyway, several local pediatricians said unless we are bathing our children in bottled water, they're being exposed at much higher levels through bathing than drinking. Isn't that hilarious? People running around frantic about this, and then lo and behold simply bathing your kids exposes them. What's the solution???? Not bathing??? I don't think so.
My point is, there is SO much info out there along the lines of "parents, don't do this or that or it will absolutely cause cancer in your baby or even kill them" etc etc. It's hard enough raising triplets (or more in a lot of our cases) that it's simply hysterical to think you can avoid these things. They're in our environment. Period. You can chase your tail forever and you still won't cut out their exposure. It's a shame really, our govt and all their agencies should do a better job of protecting us. But hell, we all want cheaper this and cheaper that, and this is the price we pay.
Sorry if this sounds a little looney. I hope this doesn't come off as insulting to those who are concerned about this and are trying to gather info/do something about it. It's simply been a rough day around here, and after reading this I just had to laugh at the thought of eliminating plastic from our lives. It just isn't going to happen. My kids were such bottle throwers that if we even attempted glass bottles (or glass tableware even) I would forever be cleaning up broken glass. There's an inherent danger in giving glass instead of plastic too! There's no win-win.
Anyway, have a good night everyone. I think I'm going to have a bottle of wine and try to relax a bit before I have to get up and get back on my hamster wheel in the morning.

I'm going to agree w/ a couple of the PP...something is going to get us in the end. All my bottles are Dr. Brown's & I simply don't have the time nor the $ to switch out 30 something bottles. I do wash them in the dishwasher but I don't sterilize them nor do I stick them in boiling water or the microwave. I thought long & hard about all the hype surrounding BPA & the truth of the matter is that if it were truly that dangerous, there would be many more sick people out there. What did my parents give me? Plastic bottles. Go figure.
I'd say at this point, you have to take what the media sends out to us w/ a grain of salt. Sure, be informed but don't let it make you crazy. A little paranoid, maybe...but you are just doing what you feel is best for your children & no one can knock you for that. If you feel more comfortable getting rid of all plastic things, then so be it. You are mommy & you do what you need to. I'm sure I will freak out over something in the future & be coming on here to ask if I am also being paranoid, lol! Plastic is everywhere. If we were to toss everything that "they" say is potentially bad for us, we would all be back to beating our clothes over rocks, milking our own cows, heating our food over the hearth fire etc etc etc.
What about composite plastic dental resins, aka tooth colored fillings or sealants?
I Googled "bpa in composite dental fillings" and was greeted with an abundance of websites and statements on both sides of the fence.
I have a few resin restorations as do my kids--primarily sealants. Should we get these teeth extracted or have them re-filled with another alternative, amalgam, aka "silver fillings" which also contain a touch of mercury.
