My only real discomfort at 23 weeks are that my feet and ankles are so swollen it is painful to walk - any suggestions or consolations?

Mine got so swollen that you could just barely see my toes and the only thing that would fit on my feet was my dh's size 12 Adidas flip-flops! All I can suggest is to keep your feet up as much as possible and see if you can talk some loving individual into giving you a VERY GENTLE leg massage with some lotion. You want them to start at your toes and gently push up toward your knee using their whole hand almost making a circle around your foot/leg with their two hands together. It's called a retrograde massage and it will help to push the fluid up a little bit. You want it to be very comfortable. If it is painful or uncomfortable at all, it's too hard. It doesn't work miracles, but it feels great and you'll find that you're able to move better afterward. It also helps if you have a whirlpool tub or just a bathtub if your MD will let you. The pressure of the water will also help to push out a little fluid. Hope it helps a little

I had the same problem starting around the same time.

I ended up buying a pair of compression socks called JOBST (http://www.jobst-usa.com). They come in a variety of styles and available in drug stores (shelf - not behind the counter). Although a bit expensive ($40) for the knee high, they are well worth it. I wear them while at home and at night.

Expecting bbg in July 2008.

My peri had me wearing TED socks around week 18-20 at night. They are compression socks... you can get them or something similar at a wal-mart store too. They were a pain in the foot, but I guess it worked.

they gave me the ted knee highs when i checked into the hospital (at 32 weeks) with v swollen legs. they helped a lot! i also had those inflatable leg thingies which i'm guessing are hospital specific, but it did the same thing that the massage a previous poster mentioned did. so maybe a combination of the two would help?

good luck and hang in there!

WOW! I can't believe the compression stockings - knee high - actually work! They are VERY ugly but now I can walk!! YIPPEE!!
Using the water therapy also and am going to schedule a massage with someone who specializes in pregnancy massage (my DH doesn't know "gentle" - thanks!!!!
