#377520, "Due date"

I'm always confused when people ask my due date. I always give them the actual (40 wk) date of 2/6/09. But many don't realize that isn't really possible so I usually add something like "it'll be a few weeks earlier though, since triplets come early." Should I just use a 35 week due date when I answer that, which to me seems like a good goal?

IS 35 a good goal? It seems like 35-36 is about the longest I've heard of triplets going. LOL 35 weeks would put us right at New Years... we were kinda thinking we'd get three little tax deductions this year!
Thanks,
Lisa

ah yes. i think i posted about this too, back when i was about the same stage you're at (just about a year ago.) in the end, my stock answer was "sometime between thanksgiving and christmas" because my 40 week due date was 1/20/08, and christmas was 36 weeks. maybe you could say "sometime in december".

34 was my first goal, then 36. ah well, almost made it to 34!

I used to give the actual due date. Then I would say something like "they won't let me go that long, though". I think what you are saying is a good explanation.

They won't let you go more than 36 weeks with triplets. There are a couple of people on here that made it to 37 weeks but only a couple. My c-section was scheduled for 36w 5d but my water broke a few days early.

I would give my real due date and then add that they will be early and no one knows how early.

I have the same issue, especially when people just want a quick answer & aren't interested in all the details. I've finally decided to say, "We're hoping for Thanksgiving babies." 35 weeks is our target according to peri & that's the week of Thanksgiving break. DD thinks that would be an awesome time to have her sisters show up - she's off school for a whole week after all!!! As you can see, the world still seems to revolve around the currently "only" child who's been that way for 12 years - oh how the world will be changing.

If these are people you will be seeing after the children are born, then say something like "We're shooting for XXX" and give your 36th week. If this isn't osmeone you care to go into too many details with, just give your 40th week due date.

For people we knew, we always said that technically, they were due September 23rd, but triplets always come early. When they asked how early, we told them our doctor's goal was 34 weeks - August 12th - but that we hoped to make it an extra week or so after that.

Guess who was born August 12th?!

If complete strangers asked, we just said they were due in August.

I ended up usually saying "It's hard to say, they'll come sometime in October probably." You're right, the exact due date will never be reached and it's just confusing for people and then it's a lot more to explain. I remember it being August and strangers commenting that I looked like I was about to pop, and am I due any day? I couldn't just say "December 3" and keep walking, people just thought I was being obnoxious and sarcastic! So my stock answer to strangers when they said When are you due? was "any day!" or "not soon enough!" just to make it quick and move on

But you're also wondering what's a good goal to tell people. I always told people that 32 weeks was avg for triplets so I was hoping to make it to average. I thought if I told everyone I was shooting for 35, I was setting their expectations too high. I decided I didn't need that kind of pressure adn stress on top of my own pressure and stress

I usually used my due date with the explanation that they would be early. However, I told one aquaintance of mine that I'd probably have them in December which I did. So now anytime I see her and she introduces me and tells my triplet story she always makes a point of adding how they were not even preemies (because I had them when I told her I probably would). I've corrected her since they were in fact 7 weeks early but it goes in one ear and out the other. I don't know why it bothers me but it does so I would just do what you are doing.

My trio will be exactly 1yr on your 40wk due date!! I used to hate that question as well and normally just said not long now or a few months to strangers and the full story to family and friends.
35 weeks is a great goal but don't be disappointed if you don't make it that far. 28 is the big milestone I think. After that every week is a bonus. You are doing great. I delivered at 33.5wks (GGB also) and they were just feeders and growers in nicu.

35 weeks is a good goal, that was our goal...though we didn't make it that far.
I always told people we were shooting for August.

It really doesn't matter too much what date you use....people will forget and ask you again anyway

However, the only place I would give your ACTUAL due date to is Babies R Us. They have recently implemented a policy where they will not take back anything without a receipt unless it was purchased on your gift registry. Then they also will not take back anything on your gift registry 90 days past the due date you give them.

For example....your due date is June 1st......someone gives you a gift on Aug 25th....BRU will return the item for you. But if it's after Sept 1st....tough luck for you.

"My due date is xx/xx/xx, but most triplets are born really early. We are hoping to make it to xx/xx/xx, which would be 32 weeks. That's the average triplet gestation." Be sure to add the bit about the average gestation, or people will automatically call you out for being negative.

Hi. Congrats on your pregnancy. I haven't read the other posts so forgive me if this is a repeat. I was due Feb 5, 2008! I started telling people Dec 28 bc that was when we were going to take them if they hadn't come yet. The reason---TAXES!!! My doc totally understood. I think it was 35 weeks. Anyway, it didn't matter cuz I had the 12/6 at 31 weeks. But just say the end of December.

Good answers, I think I'm just going to start going with a short answer of "probably before the end of December". There are some closer people who will get the longer answer, though.

When I have told people they're due Feb 6 but triplets come early, so maybe December a lot of time I ge "WOW! THAT early" with concerned looks... I don't need that! Last night at a little dinner party I gave that answer & got that exact reply but a girl jumped in to say how that's perfect, and both her singletons were born at 35 wks.

Oh yes, and definitely give the 40 wk date to Babies R Us! That return policy sounds like one more headache...

32-33 is average.

I made it to 35.4, and many here have gone to 36.

There are many more that have made less than 32 weeks. With triplets it's almost impossible to tell, but if you want to go by the average, I think it's 33 weeks.
