#485185, "Suggestions on books for a Problem toddler"

I know I have heard mention of good behavioral books for toddlers. I have a child that has "anger tantrums" and as my mommy gut instinct because of how sporatic and all over the map they are I truly am convinced that it is all behavioral. I am having no luck with ignoring, spanking, time outs and really need a new angle or information on how to deal with it. I am so tired and broken and would appreciate any advice on books or reading material to help. Thank you.

You could try books that are for the child.....If YOur Angry And You Know It.....The Colors Book......My Feelings....

This would help your child see that there are many different emotions out there, and how to deal with some of the things he is feeling on the inside.

Hi
I also have 1 over the top GGG - the 2 others are in the normal range.
The above mentioned books are excelent and have helped a lot. Talking about feelings and letting them identify them and put names to them helps to shorten the time she is out of control. They just turned 3. If she is kicking the floor and foaming at the mouth there isn't much to do but wait - for her it's about 5 LONG min and then I approach and offer to hold her like a baby - sometimes she's ready, sometimes another couple of min - then while I am holding her we talk about what happened - mostly me narrating, but more and more she participates.
Do you have a public library? The people working there - esp. if they have a story time/crafts thing - that person can help you get some others. In the adult section there are many many books with various approaches. One thing that has helped me a lot is remembering how bewildering these emotions are to a little one learning about them. I'm far from perfect but really try hard to model the behaavior I want from them - like I seldom almost never scream or really lose it in front of them - when I AM very angry I try to use MY words - your behavior - labeling it - throwing the food, hitting sister etc - is making mommy really upset/mad/angry/sad
so you have to stop doing it.

I don't know about you but I find many of the emotions I go through in a day pretty bewildering!
This will all be a memory soon!
Will check back to see how things go.
