#485386, "Starting school and new schedule"
|
My GGG are 19.5 months (16 months adjusted) and will be starting a school program next week, 2 days per week. Up until now they are home with our nanny during the day (and me sometimes depending on my work schedule). Right now we do breakfast at 7:30, lunch at 11:30, and dinner at 4:30. On school days they will be eating breakfast earlier, and then lunch and dinner later.
Should I try to adjust their meal schedule now so that it will be like their school days every day? Or should I just let it be different on school days? Part of me thinks they should be on the same schedule every day, but I also don't want to change because their current schedule works well, and I think once they adjust they will do fine with later meals (and a little bit later nap) in school because they will be so busy.
Thanks in advance for advice! Lara Mom to GGG born 12/25/09 at 25+4

We're doing the same thing, though a bit older, mine are 22 mos and start a two day a week program on Aug 29th. Luckily, there aren't huge schedule transitions but we have been doing some practicing - i.e., getting out the napmats and letting them practice sleep on them, getting little dixie cups to let them practice sipping water (though the school allows us to bring sippies, they use little dixie cups at snacks, mine have not mastered that), and trying to make the schedule somewhat similar. Make sure everyone is up & eating by 7 am so they will be at school before 9 am. I'm most worried that they only will get an hour & 1/2 nap and now they sleep for 2 hrs generally in the afternoon, but I'm hoping that they can make up for it on other nights & during the other days. I'm keeping my nanny full time so she will just clean and organize the two days my kids are gone from 9 to 2 and then allow them additional rest at home if warranted. Good luck - hope it goes well for you! (Mine are in a massively clingly phase, so that's my biggest worry.) Gindi BGB born 33wks
