#486693, "Sunshine 80's - too loose?"

I knew I wanted to get the sunshine carseats long ago and we ended up going with the 80s. Installed one this week and it's loose. Several people have said to me that they struggled with their convertible car seat b/c it was looser than the infant one. Then others have said no way, theirs is as tight as their infant carrier was. While tightening the belt my husband was about to rip the seat out of the floor so I know there is no way to make it tighter.

I guess my definition of loose is that I can shake it some when I try and it lifts up off the seat a bit. We have a 2007 Odyssey. We are using the latch and the belt thru the bottom.

I really want these seats to work but nervous. I am wondering if there is an issue because it's rear facing?

I think you're only supposed to use the latch or the belt, not both. Also when ours were rearfacing, there is a tether strap to attach from the top to a location on the floor to keep the upper part from shifting around. Do you have that on?

No I don't have that on, there were so many straps I was kinda confused. I will try that today.

So yours was tight?

Yes, they were tight. The first time I had the store install them as they had a certified tech. When we switched to forward facing my Mom did it (she's 71) and they didn't move even half an inch. We have a Toyota Sienna and I know some seats fit differently in different vehicles, but no way should it have that much play.

We've also got an '07 Odyssey with the SK Radian XT in the van. Ours are quite tight, I can't shake them around. We've got them rear facing as well -- in order for the seats to fit properly, we needed to reconfigure a bit -- we've got 3 seats in the middle row (2 rear facing one forward for our 3 yr old) and one in the back row (rear facing) -- the SRK are in the middle on the jump seat and on the passenger side with the passenger seat moved forward to accommodate the angle of the rear-facing seat(s). We attached the 2 in the middle row using the latch system along with the tethers - you shouldn't need the lap belt as well. The seat in the 3rd row in the drivers side - there's no latch so we used the belt - I recall it was tough to get this one tight but with a bit of elbow grease - it came good. Have you put the "wedge" on the bottom to support the rear-facing position? The other trick we use is to kneel in the seat while pulling on the latch straps...tricky but effective.

Good luck...we found them tricky to put in as well. Hang in there!

It should not be loose like that. I know that our local fire station will help install carseats. You might want to check them out and see if they will help. I would take them back if I could not get them tight enough because they would not be safe in an accident.

Got it fixed!! The belt that goes from the back top down to the floor made a huge difference. It barely even moves now! Thanks so much guys!!!

Something is wrong if it's not tight. Mine are so tight they don't budge at all. Rear facing could be different but I would go to your local police or fire station. They are usually certified installers.

You use either the latch or the belt with the clip attached. Never both together. Seats should be able to move about an inch either way but I think that all. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
Kneel on the seats as you pull the latch belt. Or have you husband do it if he is heavier. My seats are tight. We used them rear facing also and didnt have a problem. I did use these mighty tite fasteners for a while but i heard that they arent all that safe so I removed them. Havent had an issue with getting them tight now though. two of mine are latched and one is the belt with the clip. All are top tethered as well. Mine are forward facing now though. They are four.
