I love this post, it is so true. We are so much kinder to each other when we read about each other's experiences online somewhere and have the context of the entire situation than we are if we witness tantrums and such of other moms and their kids out in public.

I actually don't agree with the article. Now that I have kids, I'm more sympathetic towards parents when I witness their child having a tantrum in public. Before kids, I would have been thinking "shut your kid up" but now with having a special needs child(who has many public tantrums) I understand just because your child acts up in public it doesn't mean you are a bad parent or your child is a bad kid. Everyone has bad days.

I'm sympathetic when I read my friends posts but most my friends post humorous accounts so I giggle and thank the good Lord it wasn't me.

I gained empathy simply by becoming a mom as well. I also have a child with severe sensory issues who melts down in public quite frequently. As a toddler, I couldn't take her anywhere - and I do mean anywhere - without a complete meltdown. Before children, I was such a perfect parent, and knew that I could just "control" my kids. But then life has a way of teaching you things

I always realize that there is a story behind the person/family that I see in the store (or wherever) and do my very best not to make any assumptions. Blogging/ reading blogs wasn't the change for me - it was simply becoming a parent that did that.

Of course we empathize, we are mothers and even mothers of triplets. That's why I like this article, because haven't you been in a situation out in public and your kids have thrown a tantrum? Haven't you felt people staring at you or judging you? The point is as I understood it of this article that if we had a chance to write about this situation and the same people judging us were to read about our kids' tantrum episode, than they would be more likely to empathize with us and not judge us.
