#486721, "Honda odyssey 2011 and radian xtsl seat question"

We are considering buying a 2011 or 2012 Honda odyssey and would like help if any of you have similar situations...
We have 14 mo old triplets and a 3 1/2 yo....we are in need of new seats for the trips and have a britax boulevard for our oldest....

We like the radian xtsls so...

If any of you have these and the 2011 odyssey is it possible to fit 3 across in the rear seat (still rear facing). We would also like to remove the middle seat from the first row or have captains chairs and would need to put our older sons seat in one of these....anyone have this set up or do you think it's possible?

Also, any issues or anything you don't like about your 2011 odyssey?

Thanks!

Misty

We have a Honda 2011 Odyssey and absolutely love it. There isn't anything we don't like about it and we're very happy about our decision to buy it.

Our triplets are 9 months old and we have three Chicco Keyfits across the second row. That works well for us. When my parents visited, we put one of the car seats in the third row and lifting it in and out there with the baby was rather hard. We have never tried it out but I would guess that you could fit three in a row in the third row as well. From my experience, I would rather have two (or three) of the babies in the middle row and your oldest in the back because he can climb in there himself. But you'll have to figure out what works for you. I know we don't have the car seats you use and our situation is different but I thought I might share our experience. I hope it helps a bit.

Best,

Karin

I have a 2010 Odyssey and the Radian 80's so not exactly what you're asking...but...here's my input!
Yes, the seats fit across the back...BUT...the tilt is the killer if you want to keep them RF. We have 13 month olds and a 5 year old (in a high back booster in the captain's chair). We tried to put the babies all RF and they were tilted so far back that we couldn't get them in and out. We have 1 baby under 20lbs so we kept him RF but had to FF the other 2. The Sunshine company (now Diono) is supposed to be making a wedge that corrects the tilt. It was supposed to come out 2 months ago. I'm hoping that once it comes out, we can get it and turn our boys back RF. If anybody can offer help for the tilt, I'll take it!!!
Hope you can figure it out!!!

Thank you both sooooo much! That is so helpful and so much easier to hear everyone's advice before dragging 4 carseats to a dealership

I've thought about moving to a booster for our oldest, so was glad to her that worked!

We don't have a 2011 Odyssey but we do have an '07 and the SKRXT seats --

We also have a 3 year old in a Britax forward facing carseat. The Radians are great however, hard to get in rear facing with the angle as the previous poster mentioned. We also have a triplette stroller which can only fit in the van one way - so, we accommodated all by doing the following..

1. Britax is behind the driver's seat - this seat is pulled forward to accommodate for the angle of the Radian carseat behind it.
2. Passenger seat is pulled forward quite a bit (maybe all the way)
3. One Radian - rear facing in the middle row jump seat - attached with the latch system and the tether to the floor.
4. Second Radian - rear facing behind the passenger seat - attached with the latch and tether to the floor.
5. Third Radian in the rear driver's side seat - attached with the seatbelt and a tether to the floor.
6. The larger part of the rear seat has been folded down to accommodate for the stroller when we need it.

It sounds awkward, however, while we're still rear-facing, it works!
You could probably fit them all rear-facing in the back but you'd have to pull the middle row seats forward quite a bit to allow for the angle of the rear-facing seats.

good luck!

My situation is a little different as I have two toddlers in car seats. However, I drive a 2008 Sienna, which, according to the literature, is an inch or two wider than the new Sienna and Oddyseys. We currently have 3 Perego infant seats in the third row and need to figure out which full size car seats will fit there in a few months. The interesting thing is that I don't have my twins in the two bucket seats in the second row. I use the driver side bucket seat and the middle jump seat. The passenger side bucket seat has been removed from the car to allow easier access to the third row with the triplets. It makes a BIG difference.

Another note to Triplette users - I slide it in under the legs of my toddlers. Easy enough since they're both in car seats and don't need leg room, and then it doesn't take up any room in my trunk. Try it - it works!

Please keep us posted about which seats you fit into the third row. I'll be looking for advice...

nice tip on the Triplette -- I'll try it - I'm pretty sure we tried this and, our van is too narrow but perhaps we didn't try this in our efforts to find a solution!

The Sunshine Radian series are the slimmest on the market and can fit 3 across -- hope that helps!
