#486788, "Nick G? GM Car question"

Hi Nick,

Due to an unscheduled car accident (no one hurt, thank goodness). We now have to buy a new car. This is our secondary vehicle and are looking at the GMC Terrain & Chevy Equinox (must have AWD).

I know you're a fan of the Traverse and we drove one as a rental and really liked it but we need the smaller SUV.

Any feedback on the smaller GM SUV's? gas mileage, interior comfort etc...what are you hearing? I have a hard time imagining the V4 would feel powerful enough (we're in Colorado). We are trying to get a smaller vehicle with better fuel economy as my dd is going to a high school that is 16miles away from home.

Thanks for any input you (or anyone) might have!

Marie

Aw man, sorry to hear about the accident.

The Terrain and Equinox both have been selling very well. I also read that the new Equinox is getting more cool technology that is found on some of our other vehicles. I'll get more specific later when I read about it and remind myself what it is.

Although we all want the better mileage, AWD will always be a tradeoff. Still, I don't know that it is that bad with the AWD. The 4 cylinders have come a LONG way. I would advise driving one before forming an opinion. You may be impressed.

I'll take a look and see what's up the the Terrains and Equinoxs and I'll see if we have any incentives I can help you with.

Glad you are okay!

Thanks Nick, we placed an order for a Terrain today. We drove a V4 & a V6 and definitely need the V6 (live in Colorado). I'm hopeful there may be an incentive by the time the vehicle comes in so if you find out about any please let me know!

I'm interested to see how the gas mileage works out. Since the AWD only kicks in when necessary I'm thinking it might not be that much of a difference.

We drove an Equinox as well and the salesman showed us that on the Bluetooth pair screen there is a "phone" option and an "GPS" option. DH & I are assuming that the GPS has to do with having a standalone GPS (as opposed to the one in smartphones). From what I was told that was the purpose but it is not working as designed.

Thanks for the input. It was my dh & boys in the accident and yes, thankfully, they are all ok with no injuries at all. Insurance totalled out our old Jimmy and gave us close to what we'd hoped in terms of a settlement.

I have every bit of confidence that you will really like your Terrain. When I was looking at the power differences of the 4 cyl and V6, I know myself I would go for the V6. In my opinion, the hit you'll take in mileage is NOT that bad compared to the power you gain. And I'm sure you know that at higher altitudes, engines lose some power due to the thinner air. So in addition to the grade driving, you'll want to start with the most power offered anyway.

Give me a quick shout at Nickgerace@comcast.net when you are about to take delivery and I will check to see if we have anything going that you couldn't get on your own.

Congrats! The Terrain is an excellent choice! My wife and I are thinking of one. She drives a 2000 Cherokee with 165,000 miles on it and this is about as close as we can get to her taste in a GM.
