We made the move this weekend and if you are thinking about buying them I wouldnt suggest it if any of your three will share a room. we put Kellynn in her own room in a full bed with rails and she has done great...a little teary the first night to be alone but now she loves it and has slept well at night and nap (which she never napped in crib tent)..the boys on the other hand are struggling. They are sharing a room and there is nothing in there to play with, and they still keep getting out of the toddler beds..even with the treat of if you get out you get a spankin...well they have been spanked all weekend long...I can understand the temptation of being that low and just hoping out of bed. We didnt buy toddler beds, thank goodness someone gave them to us but they are a waste. i think the boys would have done much better in twin beds with rails and that way they are high enough up that they have to think twice about getting up.

That is my two cents worth. My trips were 3 in Sept and one boy is already 42 inches so he is really cramped in the toddler bed, it wont be long before we buy them regular beds.

I don't think you can blame the beds. Your boys are getting up because they share a room and have each other to play with. Your daughter is by herself with no one to distract her so she sleeps. Why to you think there are thousands of posts dealing with this subject on here? Toddlers sharing a room become a party. It has nothing to do with toddler vs twin beds.

I don't think spanking alone is going to cut it as a punishment. I didn't even bother to try and keep them in their beds at first. They weren't going to do it. I let them party a bit to get it out of their system. When I got tired of the party I started cracking down. That included some spankings but that didn't always stop the party either.

If you expect them to stay in bed and go to sleep, the only thing that is going to make that happen is you. You need to sit in the room until at least one of them falls sleep. The other option is to sit outside the door and put them back to bed every time you hear one get up. They have been given freedom for the first time in their lives and they have a playmate. Just telling them to stay in bed or spanking isn't going to work immediately. The need to be trained to stay in bed and go to sleep.

My kids shared until they were 4.5. My son was the party planner. We thought when we moved them to his own room all 3 would settle down and sleep. It worked for him. We discovered that the girls are perfectly capable of having a party without him. It isn't wild like at age 3 of course, but they sometimes like to talk or sing or find excuses to get out of bed. The threats work a lot better at 5 thought, LOL. At 3 I would have had to sit in the room.

I would go buy the twin beds. I skipped toddler beds completely and I had no problems.

We are in our third week of transition to full beds...I also have two boys (who share a room) and a girl (has her own room.

I don't have toddler beds, but twin beds for all three.

My DD LOVES being in her own bed and I have absolutely no problems w/her falling asleep or napping.

The boys on the other hand....craziness. They do not have anything in their room other than books.

I would 100% recommend investing in those retractable gates (I call them shade gates) for across their room..this way when they open the door they still can not get out or push hard enough to knock it down.

The first few days were hell (w/the boys)..they cried the first night and partied the next two nights for a few hours. They did find their way back to their beds and went to sleep seperately.

They didn't nap for me for a week until I started sitting in there for about 15/20 minutes playing guard! I would sit on the floor and read...yell if they started to get out of their beds. It works!!! With the inconvenience of sitting there, but at the same time, 1. I have reading time and 2. it beats running in there every few minutes to yell at them. It's worth the time to take them to settle down and fall asleep.

At night I have to make sure there are NO LIGHTS on in the room. I turn off the nightlight and close the door once I tuck them into the bed. They do sometimes get up and open the door, but the hall light is on and the gate is across and we ignore them. Mine do go back into bed and go to sleep. When I check on them at the end of the night I turn their nightlight on.

I dreaded the transition, but it is MUCH better than I anticipated. Now, I dread potty training! lol

Good luck...I hope some of my suggestions help you!

Thanks for the feedback. We have a dimmer switch on their fan/light overhead and they want it pretty light when they go to sleep, but after asleep we come in and turn in darker. If you dont have one I recommend. We have nothing in their room but books, they have no furniture and all clothes are locked in the closet..I think that helps as well.

Did you go from crib to bed...no toddler bed in between? You might want to give them a stool to get up on bed with and then take it out with you so they cant get down till morning

We put our three in toddler beds at about 2 1/2. We were starting to climb out and the cribs were not as sturdy as I would have liked so we bit the bullet and put them in the toddler beds. The first 2 nights were awesome...then came the third night. All three were still in the same room (we converted our back porch to their nursery so they have a 300 sq foot bedroom/playroom) with the sissy in the middle. It was horrible. They wouldn't stay in their beds they thought it was fun to get out and run and play. We did spankings, they would just smile and offer us their bottoms to spank and keep on playing. Finally, after about 2 weeks...and cutting out naps, cause they would not lay still to nap for love nor money nor favorite toys, we finally developed a routine (thanks to the visiting inlaws). Now we have a good bedtime routine, teeth brush, story, prayer, kisses and lights off. My DH and I sit on a bed and there is no talking and no playing. Once one goes to sleep, then one of us leaves. Once 2 are asleep, the other leaves. This usually takes about 15 minutes. There are nights that are shorter and nights that are longer, but this is the average. This has been working for us for about 7 months. It will be pretty soon that we will have to start putting them into bed and leaving, but this is working and we are going to stick to it. They are amazing sleepers, never getting up during the night. My DD just had a sleep study in a twin bed and she did great. I think we will stay in the toddler beds for at least another year, or until they outgrow it.
I think that this is new and fun and it will pass once you give it time. My DH and I were ready to torch the toddler beds after the third night, but it does get better once the new wears off. We did have a few tumbles out of the beds at first so I am happy that we had the toddler beds since they were so low. The first few weeks are the worst so hang in there~

Have you tried this clock?

http://www.amazon.com/Stoplight-Sleep-Enhancing-Clock-Sports/dp/B002TKLN46/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1321478606&sr=8-2

I heard about it on this site (rave reviews). We have only used it the past two nights, but it seems to be working. My girls know the rule: stay in bed when it's red, get out when it's green. I had to put one back in bed on the first green light morning, but this morning they stayed there until the light went off. Unlike the reviews say, mine does have battery back up.

Our two boys out of our triplets LOVE to live in the air; they climb, jump, swing whatever they can do to be off the ground. We started out with mattresses on the floor in their room and that's it because I was afraid of one of them cracking a head open against their bed. I wish they sold padded rooms for this stage!
