I think this bed is very cool -- put a mattress on the floor and it becomes a bunk bed. Flip it over and it becomes a single bed....Ikea has Tent-like covers to go over the top bunk so it can be a "fort" for kids too small to sleep on top...

Ikea has some great beds -- pretty affordable as well...

We have bunk beds that can be seperated as two twin beds and then later if you decide can stack them into bunk beds again. It works great! We only had to buy the mattress vs. mattress and box spring! Good luck!
