#486815, "What to do? One ready to drop a nap- not others?!"

I am not sure what to do regarding naps. My BBB are 16 months and one of them has not taken an afternoon nap in weeks. My other two still take their 2 naps a day most of the time...it's pretty rare that they skip a nap. They are all separated for naps so they don't interfere with each other. I'm not sure if I should transition them to one nap for my one who is only taking one nap a day, or make him suffer through 2 to let the others sleep???? HELP?!!?! It's so hard with 3 and I am not willing to have them on different schedules.

I transitioned mine to one nap at 17 months. Like yours, I had one that was ready so I just made the others ready. I, like you, didn't want mine to be on different schedules either...too much trouble. It is a BIG transition and takes 2 or 3 weeks for them to adjust, but just hang in there and they'll get it. Good luck

I am with you on keeping them on the same schedule. You can decide what makes the most sense for your family, but keeping it the same makes the most sense.

I waited until at least 2 were ready. My son was ready earlier than the girls. The girls were hit or miss with napping twice but they needed it longer. I would just give the non-napper some toys to play with in his crib and give him quiet time while the others nap. If he starts getting tired of being alone before the others are up you can always enjoy the opportunity for some one on one time. It probably won't be long before the others want to sleep less too.

I would switch. You are right at the normal time for switching now anyway. I made the transition by taking them for small outings every day right around the morning nap time. Not too far, because you don't want them falling asleep in the car. This would get them to lunch, then they would be down for their nap right after lunch. You may need to make lunch earlier in the beginning.

It is tough with triplets to have to decide what is best for all of them. With us it does seem that one leads the way and part of being a triplet is that somebody hsa to give.. I think mom should win and you should do what is best for you. 16 months is a great time to make the tranistion to one nap. I think you will like it better in the end. At least for me, I was surprised how much I enjoyed having the one long afternoon nap. It enabled us to be able to do fun things in the morning together and go places and made it much easier to have friends and see people. Our triplets slept at least three hours and many times four hours. This is just one of the tough things about being a triplet, sometimes your siblings decide when it is time to move on to the next stage. However, as we all know that the benefits of being a triplet, the gift that they are to each other far out weigh anything that might be hard about it. Whatever you decide, you have a great idea about keeping them all three on the same schedule. I'm sure I would not have survived had they all not been on the same schedule.

Mom to BBG Triplets and Singleton boy. Our triplets are almost four and our baby is almost two.

I had the same issue, one of the boys just would not take his afternoon nap. I just transitioned them all. It isn't necessarily easy, mainly figuring out how to entertain them for longer stretches...but the other two did just fine with the change. I was the same with keeping them all the same, you need that break!
