#487068, "Milk Challenge Test"

Tomorrow is the day we are supposed to give Abby a milk challenge test. She tested positively for a milk allergy (she scored a 2 on the LTGE or whatever that is called). The doctor advised us to challenge her at 16 mos...that's tomorrow.

Any advice from the veterans?

Definitely put it on her skin first to see if she reacts.

Next step would be baked milk. Even most allergic kids can tolerate some amount of baked milk, since the protein is mostly gone. If she tolerates a bite, then move on up every half hour until she eats a baked good (wait in half hour or hour increments to be safe and increase your amount each time).

If no reaction, then you can move onto placing some milk on her lips. If no reaction, then try a bit.

Of course, doing a food allergy trial at the doc office would be the safest bet. Does she have an allergist? Did she have a really bad reaction previously?

So far so good. We gave her a pancake Saturday morning and waited...nothing. Normally she get spots in a few hours. So by the afternoon we gave her a splash of milk in her formula. No spots by morning. In the morning we gave her milk in her scrambled eggs and increased the milk in her formula and then milk through the rest of the day. So far so good.

We'll keep an eye on her for several more days before declaring it. Cross fingers!

Sounds like she outgrew her allergy! If she can take straight uncooked milk in her formula and had no adverse reaction at all, I'd say you are clear! Fantastic!
