How did you choose God parents for 3 babies? We are approaching 28 weeks and this is a decision that our preacher has brought up to us. He is right, it is something we need to consider.

When we discuss it, we either leave out a brother/sister, or have one side of the family seemingly absent...any thoughts on a solution???

We chose 6 people, and chose who would sign whose certificate. However, we made it clear that we did not "assign" anyone to any particular child. We chose each person for what they could provide, in the future, for the trio. (ex...A couple are very spiritual, a couple are very academic, a couple have formerly walked on the wild side) We were less interested in making nice with the relatives than we were at providing our girls with a group of people they could always go to.

We had my sister and a girl friend (her husband was in our wedding and we're close with them both). We had other Catholic friends/family, but we chose the ones closest to us and most involved in our family.

This is not about appeasing family and making them happy, which seems to be a pretty common worry when this question comes up on TC. It's about choosing people you feel could step in and help raise your kids if needed or assist them with problems without missing a beat (and as PP mentioned, providing guidance in a way that you would like to have done in your absence).

If family would hold it against you for not choosing them, is that really the type of person you'd want to godparent the children anyway? If you KWIM...

both of the PP make perfect sense...just wanted some insight on how to handle it well, thanks a lot!

We did six different people. the reason was because my brother is single. My Best friend was single at the time. So I didnt want two kids to have couples if one had two separate. its mixed . Some family and some are our close friends. It worked out well though. We used my brother and my best friend as a pair, Husbands brother and husbands cousin as a pair, and husbands sister and his friend as the other pair.
