We have an ear thermometer, but we got the nicer one. It was $35 at the time.

I'd be interested in one of the new swipe ones that the doctors' offices use. I think it swipes across the forehead and then dabs the neck? Maybe someone else can recommend one of those if they've got one

I have an ear thermometer that I paid around $35 for and I also have a cheap digital one that I use under the arm. I love the ear thermometer but if there is fluid in the ear it will not work well.

There is a big problems with thermometers out there!!! Over the last two weeks, I bought and returned a bunch because it just displays a wrong temperature!
I've tried Vick's forehead (about $55)-very bad. Also tried, Graco's ear-thermometer ($20), returned yesterday. And just a whole bunch of under-arm/oral thermometers, the problem with those is that it takes forever, my kids won't stay still for that long...
My local pharmacist recommended Braun's ear-thermometer(about $40) that take a second to get a reading, I am ordering it right now on amazon.com.
I've been to my pediatrician's office today and asked about his thermometer which I totally loved because it just touched the forehead and gave him a precise reading two seconds later, but it's $250...

We have an temporal thermometer. It is fairly accurate, but is often a degree high (typical with temporals). It only takes a second or two to get a temperature behind their ear.

We use an Exergen temporal thermometer and it is the same one our ped. uses. Swipe across the forehead. My kids like it so much they want to use it even when they aren't sick. I bought it at BRU, but I think the price has come down since we got ours.

Don't get the Vick's forehead scanner! I always thought it was good enough to see if there was a fever or not, but Friday night one got sick with what turned out to be hand, foot and mouth disease. I didn't believe the forehead scanner that said her temp was normal, and finally took a rectal temp that was 103.7!

The problem with ear thermometers is that they read the temperature behind the tympanic membrane, so if their ears are blocked with wax or you don't get it in there just the right way they aren't accurate.

I think the temporal artery ones are supposed to be good but very pricey.
