I'm considering a move to Dyer, Indiana from the SW burbs of IL. My kids are 5 years old and will be going to kindergarten this fall. How are the schools and what is the community of Dyer like? My husband works in Chicago, and this will add about an extra 30 min. (no traffic) driving time to his commute...anyone done this?

You would find Dyer to be a friendly community. The schools are part of the Lake Central School District. It is a large district with one high school, 3 middle schools and several elementary schools. The school district is rated to be one of the top school districts in the state. Three towns feed into this school district, Schererville, St. John and Dyer. We find NW Indiana very family friendly with good libraries, organized sports and close enough to Lake Michigan to enjoy the beach in the summer. Driving the expressways are not always fun but some days are worse than others. Lots of people make this trip daily.
