#487731, "Car question"

Hi,
My husband is in the market for a new car. He has a long commute now and we are trying to find something very gas efficient. That said, we are a family of 6 with three 5 year olds and a 2 year old. I would love for him to be able to fit three kids in the car (four would be better but I know that's not possible and still remain a compact car) Any suggestions on what car he can get that will fit three kids in the back? My boys are still in 5 point harness seats but as a back up could be in booster seats. Ideally, it would fit one car seat for the baby and two booster seats?? Lots of time I have to take one of the kids somewhere and it would be great if he could go get them after school but he drives a volkswagen and it's not feasible.

thanks

If you're looking for a compact car - my friend drives a Pontiac Vibe and can fit 3 kids in the back - 2 in Sunshine Radian seats and the baby in an infant seat. They tried it out with our 3 Radians before committing and they fit. Not sure what it gets for gas mileage, but these friends are very eco-friendly so I imagine it's not too bad.

I was also going to suggest the mazda -- they have a car I like to call the "micro van" -- it's a car but has quite a capacity...

We just bought a Subaru Outback as a second car and we fit three Radians in the back seat with a decent size trunk size for storage and plenty of second row leg room. We chose it because it is big enough for the seats, decent price, and gets 26 mpg around the city.

The salesman said the Subaru Impreza is basically the same body size, just a sedan instead of a wagon so that would work too. We also test drove the Prius V (new wagon) and that fit the seats but was tight.
