We have 2 1/2 year old BBG triplets. Our daughter talks NO STOP but our boys say very little. One of the boys sats a few words and a few simple phrases....the other son barely says MOMMY/DADDY/HI and BYE.

We have been told things all over the range from tripets just talk later than singletons as they have thier own language to issues of Autism on the horizon... It is very emotionally draining and confusing... Wondering were others with older triplets on trips about the same age can weigh on with thier experiences.

Thank so much!

Have you had them evaluated by Early Intervention? That only goes up to age 3, so it will be a lot easier to get them evalulated and services started now than if you wait until they turn 3.

We've got 21 month old adjusted GGG -- 2 of ours are in speech therapy and the third probably should be. I agree with Lori, it might be a good idea to get the boys assessed - if they do need some support, earlier is always better.

don't stress though...

I agree too, try to get them evaluated now. My kids were about 2 1/2 when they started speech therapy. They had maybe 10 signs and a couple of words at the time. It seemed like it took forever for their speech to get going, but therapy was really useful for me personally to get ideas of how to help them at home.

I know it can be scary to go through evaluations, but if you are concerned, you might as well just do it.

My kids are 2 1/2 or 29 months adjusted. I have one that is starting to put two sentences together. For example she told my mom, "These are my new shoes. Do you like them?" Then I have one that is saying alot but no sentences. Then I have one that is in speach and she says very little. She talks more if it is just me and dh but if other kids or people are around she will not talk. Like the other people said it won't hurt to have them evaluated for EI. I know here that if they need services after 3 they can get it through the community and it is all free.

Thank you! THe kids ALL have been evaluated by Early Intervention Services.... Frustrating me is that those involved with the early interventions are the ones that have been giving me conflicting information! ALl the kids are getting speach therapy... will see how that moves along...

As a follow uo--I talked to my kids pediatrician on Friday evening for almost 2 hours. She assured me that she sees NOTHING to indicate that my son is even at risk for further Autism screening----she told me if she had seen it--she would have addressed it! I feel much better! If indeed there is something that we need to be concerned about--we will deal with that....but all the conflicting reports from the "professionals' are making me NUTS!

Thank you for your repsonses..and for letting me vent!

We JUST started Speech therapy about a month ago... Ours are 26 months old now. Ours were assessed at between 8 and 10 months behind. But, I know speech therapy is helping because they are already showing signs of improvement! Good job on being proactive and making all the calls and getting the ball rolling! Best of luck to you!

Glad to see you had them evaluated, and that your ped. has alleviated some of your concerns related to autism. At 3yo services are generally transferred to the public school system, and there is another evaluation process. Have they talked to you about that yet? The transition process can take some time.

I have B/G/G fraternal triplets that we had evaluated at 22 mo. as one was barely talking (and no babbling). The one without babbling had the language equivalence of a 9 mo. old. The girls each qualified for speech 2 hours a week and DS qualified for 1 hr a week. The professionals are just that and each probably has an opinion. Your team should include both yourself, your ped., and your professionals, so your opinion/input carries weight on the services they receive. We "graduated" from the EI program as they had met their goals when they were 3. Our school system has a blended program for pre-schoolers age 3 that is half special needs students and half gen ed. We qualified for gen. ed but there is a speech therapist in their classroom 4 days a week and she works both with the kids as a group and does pull-outs for those that qualify. Something to keep in mind as you progress through the system. Good luck!

We too have BGB triplets that turned 2 1/2 this week. It's interesting though, our youngest boy is the one who jabbers on all the time and Lillie is the most unintelligible. She has words we understand, but we understand her least. Will, on the other hand, is speaking in complete sentences and tackling challenging words. I think it is VERY dependent on the kid, and my pediatrician isn't worried. I think ECI is always helpful, they helped Sam with gross motor when he was younger, and it never hurts to get some feedback from a professional. We were told that between triplet talk and my nanny speaking Spanish it was okay for them (or some of them) to be somewhat delayed. Don't get too panicked, but it's good to get some speech therapists advice.
