#487913, "When to pack for the hospital?"

Ok, so I'm sure this has been answered before, but in trying to search I can't seem to find anything. I was just wondering when everyone packed their hospital bag. I am currently 28 weeks 2 days with identical boys. I am still working and my cervix is still long and hasn't changed yet. I know everything could change super quickly, so I was just wondering how soon to get things packed. I don't want to "jinx" anything, so I didn't want to do it too early! Haha! Also what's the one thing you couldn't have survived without having in the hospital?

Thanks!

It's time to pack!
Good maxi pads and plenty of underwear (the hospital ones are pretty bad). Good moisturizer, hand cream and lip balm (because the air is dry in the hospital). A large water bottle. Your camera/video recorder and assorted power cords. A list of important phone numbers in case your phone goes dead when you need it (time gets warped in the hospital, and you might forget to recharge it).

Awesome you have made it this far! Pack now! Some other things to think of:

--lanolin cream for sore nipples if you are going to pump or breastfeed
--Nursing pads and nursing bra
--Medela microwave sterilizer bags if you are going to pump; the wipes they make are handy also
--Your own shampoo and razor
--Pajama bottoms and t-shirts that are comfy
--Slippers or at least flip flops or something else slip-on

All the other things for the breast pump were supplied by the hospital, but my husband loved getting to go to Target to buy me the other stuff!

Good luck!

I agree with the others pack now. I was fine one day and the next I was in the hospital for 5 weeks. I really wanted my hair brush and my laptop. Everything else I managed with. I either got it from the hospital or I had my husband bring it to me. Congrats on making it to 28 weeks and still doing great.

Pack now, I was scheduled for my c-section at 36 weeks and at 35 weeks 3 days my water broke at home. In my head I guess since I had made it that far I thought I would make it to the c-section date. So I had to have my hubby, whom I love dearly, pack for me and it was December and he brought me capri pants! Oh well, I survived but I would pack now if you can! Best of luck!

I wanted to add... every time you go see your doctor for an appointment, have your bag (or at least a bag with a few essentials) along in the car! At my 25-week appointment, my cervix was short and they just wheeled me right over to the hospital and checked me in (my peri's practice was located in a building adjacent to the hospital).

Hopefully your husband or other family members/friends will bring you things you need if you suddenly end up in the hospital so it's not like it's the end of the world if you don't have everything pack ahead though.

I never packed a bag at all...I already had 2 kids and knew DH would be going back-and-forth between home and the hospital a couple of times each day, so he could pick up whatever I needed. I did toss a pair of comfy slippers, PJs, and the camera in a backpack on the way out the door after my water broke...
