#487967, "POLL: How many have two washing machines & two dryers?"
Wed Apr-25-12 12:27 PM by TripletsRule

I am just curious if anyone has two of each and if you really use both sets all the time? We are considering installing a second set because we both work full-time and struggle with finding time to do laundry.

Thanks,

Jennifer

I do! Couldn't live without them. When the kids were younger, I added a washer and dryer because I had to get up during the middle of the night to change clothes over from the washer to the dryer to get all the laundry done. Now, my kids are 14, and they are responsible for doing their own laundry. So I have a washer and dryer, and they share the other set and each one has assigned days to do laundry. I don't know now how we'd get it all done with just one set!

Not I. It is hard enough to keep up on putting the clean stuff away, if I had twice as much clean stuff I would just have bigger piles to dig through

Nope
When the kids were little, their clothes were little so I could get a weeks worth in 2 loads.
Now I do about 8 loads a week but find it easier to either do 2 loads a day if I am not working much that week, or all in one day dedicated to housework if I am working alot one week.

If I was going to get a second of something, it would be a dryer. That does hold up the process tho' in the summer I hang every other load outside.

Really if I needed a second of anything with 4 teens, it would be a fridge and locked pantry. My son can easily eat 8 bags of groceries in a weekend.

No, we have one set and I have 5 kids, the oldest of which is 6. Yes we have a lot of laundry, but if you invest in the newer models, their capacity is incredible. You can fit 17 pairs of adult size jeans in one load. I fit 4-5 days of my trio's (age 2) clothing in one load and that includes a set of PJs for every night, and a few extra clothes changes in there. When I upgraded to a large front-loader, it was like a whole new world for me. When I had a traditional top load washer, I was doing laundry non-stop.

I say get a front-loader with the biggest capacity and save yourself all of the extra plumbing and venting costs you have to incur to put a 2nd set it (plus the extra room the extra set takes up in your house).

I only have 1 right now for 7 people and I cannot keep up with the laundry. In my next house we are designing it to have 2 laundry rooms. One for upstairs and one for down. That way there will be no lugging up and down stairs either.

We recently installed a second set, and it helps immensely with keeping the laundry caught up.

I no longer stress about my daughter peeing the bed. I can still wash regular laundry and bedding at the same time. The couple bedding loads no longer throw me dangerously behind in laundry.

I do laundry for 7.

I do. With four teenagers and two that play varsity sports, it really helps. Both sets are older. Secretly hoping to get more efficient ones one day!

We remodeled our laundry room to accommodate 2 sets of stacked front loaders. My only regret is how long I waited to have it done .

Misti,

I am not familiar with these. Are they two washing machines one on top of the other and two dryers one on top of the other?

It is so frustrating because my husband does not help very much with the laundry at all and we just spent money on a new tractor for him for the lawn and put in a place to store his wood when they were born. We both work and contribute so I think it is only fair that I have what I need to do my end of the household chores. We also have a place to install the units on our first floor and I wanted them there, but he insisted they go in our basement. I am now insisting that he put in a laundry shoot!

Thanks,

Jennifer
