#488109, "Hernia repair with tummy tuck"

Hi All!
I was wondering if anyone could share their experience with umbilical hernia repair and a tummy tuck. I have wanted a tummy tuck since I had my triplets (now 4 and a half) and I only got worse after my 4th baby (he's 20 months now). I just found out that I have an umbilical hernia that needs surgery so now I'm considering doing both together next summer.
I was wondering what it's like to do both (plus I may do a breast aug) and also if insurance will cover part of it (obviously I would think they'd cover the actual hernia repair but I'm wondering if my overall out of pocket will be less since maybe the anesthesia and O.R. Will be covered too?).
If you have any experience or knowledge to share, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!
Elisa

I didn't have the hernia repair but I did just have tummy tuck and breast reduction 3 weeks ago. My triplets are 4 also. It's been a good age to do it I think since there isn't a lot of picking them up any more. They've been very easy on me. I'm back to doing most things except for heavy lifting. My surgeon said he'd clear me for all activities at 4 weeks post op b/c at 2 weeks post op I was doing really well. I still may have implants also but my surgeon likes to wait 3 months after a reduction to do that. I plan on waiting 6 months before making my final decision on whether or not I still want them.

Mine fell under purely cosmetic so no insurance coverage. Your insurance should cover the hernia repair along with OR and anesthesia fees for the length of time it would take to repair the hernia. They probably won't cover the additional time you need in the OR or anesthesia for the other surgery. Not 100% but just a guess. For my tummy tuck and reduction it was 4 hours in the OR.

I had a tt with hernia repair and they sewed my sotomach muscles back together too.

Are you wanting to know how recovery is for the TT? I have no info on insurance because the military did mine. As far as the TT the recovery for me was SO fast and NOTHING horrible compared to my csection recovery. I did wear an abdominal binder and target granny panties that came to my boobs underneath the binder, for about 6 weeks after the surgery. But pain was very minimal, I was walking 4 hours after surgery, and back in the gym 8 weeks after the surgery.

HOpe that helps!!
